When is it worth it?

To plex an account?

I don't personally see it as a good idea for a main. Just about ever, honestly. While there may be exceptions and players who enjoy being an exception... On average about the only good typical scenarios seem to stem from alt use.

Eg.

The PVE/hauling logi alt who plexes for itself & to support the PVP main (which subs to ccp).
Plex for the PVP alt (purchased from the bazaar?) stemming from an established PVE main (which pays a sub).
To train and set up the 3 (or more) cyno character alt account(s) which you sprinkle liberally around the cluster.
For the force muliplier alt used during times of heavy pvp activity - re: Falcons, OBGs etc.

Am i missing anything?

Talk about over complicating your thought process.

It's pretty simple, do you want to spend your game time paying for the game or playing it?

If it is easier/less time consuming for you to make $15 IRL than it is to make ~850 mil isk in game, then don't plex. If it is easier/less time consuming for you to make isk, then plex your account.

The answer would differ for everyone depending on real life income vs eve income.

Personally I pay the sub for my two accounts because I enjoy spending ISK more than grinding for it and don't like multiboxing. However some people enjoy playing with 10 accounts and probably use them to make enough ISK to buy plex for the majority of them.

'Sounds rather reasonable.

Am not asking for myself as much as, for players' who'd debate it, akin to 'can/should i play eve for free with plex as a new player?' To which i'd say no.

I pay money for each subscription.
I try to use deals and keep it's lifetime short.

When you have a billion extra isk or so that you don't have anything better to do with.

Other than that... meh. It's not worth actually working specifically to get PLEX in-game, it's just a nice bonus thing you can do when you already are flush from something unrelated.

If you're wallowing in so much ISK that buying a PLEX doesn't make a dent in your wallet then it might be time to buy one.

Or you just start getting blown up in more expensive ships, that's what I did.

It's all about income level in-game. If you're making just enough for a PLEX on a monthly basis, then buying PLEX off the market to pay for your account is not likely a good idea. Should you lose something you need to replace, you'll not have the ISK to do so.

My own practice is simple. If I've made at least 2B ISK in any month, I PLEX the account for that month. Nothing I own would require even close to 1B ISK to replace. Hell, I could lose my most valuable ship (Tengu) twice in a month and it would cost a shade under 1B to replace those losses.

The last time I used PLEX was for multi-character-training (MCT), for 6 months, to train a science alt.

I still consider it a good investment.

I never plex. I'm spacepoor anyway but even if I wasn't, I couldn't see myself ever plexing my account(s) unless it took less than an hour to make 850 mil and I could keep it up indefinitely.

Then again I don't drink coffee or smoke, so I have no issues spending the equivalent of a daily cup of coffee to play Eve. The amount of enjoyment I get out of it more than pays for itself and the way I look at it, there are far worse things I could be doing with my money.

Coincidentally that is also what I tell my girlfriend when she asks me why I play a nerdy spaceship video game.

If you have to play every month only to earn enough isk to buy a plex it's not worth to play this game. I wouldn't suggest to use plexes as a standard way of paying for your subscription.

When you make 500 mil isk a day. Then its worth it.

Don't kid yourselves. Even the dirtiest pirates from the birth of EVE have been carebears. They use alts to bring them goods at cheap prices and safely, rather than live with consequences of their in game actions on their main, from concord to prices
