FW small ship meta?

I'm back to give this game one more shot. I left because I could not seem to counter the most popular small ship fits found in small FW plexes. The main culprit was the dual web, armor tanked firetail. When I say "i could not counter them" what I really mean is I could not come up with a counter that wasn't obvious and therefore they would not fight me.

So has much changed with frigate 1 v 1? Is it still just a few ships dominating small plexes?

If you're leaving just because of the frig meta in FW small plexes you might want to just quit anyway given how very small the range of content in EVE you enjoy is. There's so much more than just frig 1v1 fights in small plexes to be had.

Have you tried a sentinel?

Tbh 2 webs firetail is one of the rarest fits i encounter in FW lately.

I've always stayed away from T2 ships out of fear of not finding fights and the cost of them. I pretty much only fly T1 and sometimes navy stuff.

Well I always play solo (that will probably never change). Mostly I flew T1 frigs because I never considered myself a good enough player to fly sometime bigger or more expensive. I do one day want to try 1 vs many in something bigger such as cruiser or battle cruiser, maybe even battleship one day if I gain enough confidence and ISK.

You can very well enjoy yourself only with solo content. You do miss out on large parts of Eve gameplay such as small gang and fleet warfare, but if you enjoy soloing thats ok.

However, soloing only in T1 frigates can be frustrating because of your limited engagement profiles. To be able to effectively fight against the odds, it'll require at least a navy frigate, such as the comet or the slicer. Pirate frigates are also very good for soloing.

Since you're in FW, a good way to make isk while finding fights is just to offensive plex a system. You'll get isk and you can pick yor fights since you can see what's coming for you on d-scan. Pick your fights wisely, if your in a T1 frigate you'll have to warp out oftent but theres still fights to be had.

As far as T1 frigates go I would suggest you fly a Tristan since they're really powerful and not so hard to play.

I agree Tristan is very powerful.

A way to win fights vs bigger is to fit a relatively rare layout. I used to flail 150mm rail Incursus. People were expecting to fight an active tanking brawler, and so thought their neuts or pulling range would kill me but I was just fine with this and so managed to kill people and sometimes navy frigs (tough I mostly lost vs them)

Regarding the dual web firetail you should consider Tristan or INSlicer, that can apply damage at any range within 20km.

Excellent ships in the FW frigate meta:

-- Merlin: Wicked brawler.
-- Kestrel: Excellent scram kiter.
-- Tristan: Swiss army knife: Neuting brawler, scram kiter, full MWD kiter
-- Condor: Good kiter, with long point / TD
-- Maulus: Multidamps + long point = gg
-- Incursus / Tormentor : Good scram kiters / brawlers, hella tanky
-- Breacher: Excellent MASB brawler, or kiter with TDs
-- Executioner: Can be a decent kiter.
-- Imperial Navy Slicer: Excellent kiter.
-- Firetail: Great brawler and scram kiter.
-- Federation Navy Comet: Excellent brawler, good kiter, excellent scram kiter.
-- Caldari Navy Hookbill: Can be a good scram kiter, better kiter.

Excellent list mate, but no Slasher? Seriously?!

Fighting a MASB with utility neut and fast tracking 150mm AC fit, orbiting you at 500m is like trying to swat a wasp.
And the TD/SAAR/Nos version will usually kill any turret AssFrig or Dessi without taking a hit.

To the OP: If a dual web FT wants to dance, dock or use an Depot to switch your scram to a second web, in basically any T1 brawler. Same goes for Hookbills.

He may warp off sure, but usually he pops before realizing whats happened.

Whilst this is basically true, I have to disagree on the grounds that if you approach solo Frig PvP from a 'Rock/Paper/Scissors/Lizard/Spock' point of view, the right T1 Frig often out performs the Faction - even Pirate Frigs.

Those little 0.5mill isk ships can and often do kill very big fish.

T1'd out frigs are great. Perfectly suited to FW and, best part, pretty much any of them will do the job well for any race. Amarr frigs may struggle with cap issues, but ancillary armor repairers are the solution to that for active tanking frigs. If I'm being honest, with the ISK and LP coming from FW, people should really have no issue getting into Navy frigs.

Imperial Navy Slicer: Pulse Laser + Vamp, purely speed/sig tank w/ MWD. DPS is excellent vs. shield tanked opponents. It's fragile, so pick your targets wisely. It's FAST. Like, real fast... making it excellent tackle in gangs.

Federation Navy Comet: Blaster + Vamp brawler, ancillary armor repper. MWD will be hard to fit and maintain, but you'll be pushing ~250 DPS w/ T2 drones. Its an ass-kicker. The railgun fit w/ long point is doable as a kiter, but I've never had good results with it. With the right skills, the brawler comet has the highest DPS potential of all the navy frigs.

Republic Navy Firetail: A strange AC/Rocket hybrid. Passive shield tanked is cap stable with MWD. It's super agile w/ nano and allows it to keep up transversal. Lackluster DPS, but excellent fast tackle in gangs.

Caldari Navy Hookbill: Rocket brawler + dual web. Functions well both passive tanked and ancillary shield booster (I prefer the former). Can swap out a web for a Tracking Disruptor to make up for lackluster speed. Cap longevity is fair with MWD. DPS is solid. With the right skills, this is the toughest of all the navy frigs.
