Ghost site doubt

Yesterday I found an Angel Cartel Research Facility in null. I proceed to hack it in my Buzzard, knowing the risks of being blown up if failing the hacking, and I was blown up indeed but was strange.

I hacked succesfully the difficult one (meh loot), then one of the easy ones (no loot, yay), and then another one. I started hacking and BOOM.

I didn´t failed the hacking, I had my coherence at full and I even if I activated accidentally a firewall/antivirus/whatever there is no way to deplete a full coherence bar in just one spot.

It wasn´t the rats, they appeared like 10 seconds after the explosion.

It wasn´t a player; I was alone in local at everytime...

Fortunatley enough I could go back for looting the wreck and I recovered the cost of the ship, but it was very annoying not knowing what has happened... someone has a clue of what could be? The cans may explode on a timer even if the pirates have not appeared yet? There is some kind of BOOM button exclusive to ghost sites hacking?

It can be entertaining to pop a can on purpose if you catch a frigate in a ghost site.

the cans seem to pop before the rats show up. the explosion from the can will pop you.

edit: cans pop based on a timer, don't know what the timer is anymore because I don't run those sites.

timer starts when ever anyone warps into site. So if 3 hours ago someone warped in for 3 minutes thats time off the timer for yoiu

the timer never stops, if u just warp in to the site then leave, the site despawns when the timer is out regardles if someone is there

My guess is you either bounced out of range, or you ran out of cap. I once accidentally left my mwd on and of course it didn't turn off from lack of cap, my relic hacker did X

When Ghost sites were introduced to the game, CCP said that a timer will activate when any capsuleer ship lands on grid, even without attempting a hack. The timer is random ranging from 5 minutes up to 20 minutes.

The actual scenario for the sites was that a few 'Ghost' NPC's (They don't show up on overview hence the 'Ghost' term, they have to be added manually) will warp in, web and scram the capsuleer thus enabling full force of the can explosion to hit their ship. The explosion has an AOE (Area Of Effect) range, so if you're in-between the cans, the amount of damage received is greatly reduced. The 'Ghost' NPC's will also shoot at the capsuleer and then warp out after a minute or two.

Course as usual that new content was plagued by some bugs which were supposedly fixed. However since it is CCP we're talking about, that content may still be a little bit buggy.

Anyway, at least you were able to go back and collect your loot due to local being empty. Hope you have better luck next time

These are the most plausible choices.

Thanks for the answers!

but u dont need the relic/data analyzer on to hack, i allways turn it of 1s after i started it to save time and dont have to wait for the cycle time to end if i fail the first hack,
obvious i only do that in normal relics/data so maybe diffrent in ghostsite?, im going to test it someday in a ship that dont insta pop when i fail :-)

You got blagged by the ghosts, the can exploding or a combination of the 2. It happens quickly when in a frigate. First time I found one in null, I was scanning on a Heron as my Tengu has not arrived yet. I had no idea what a ghost site was and, thus, had no idea the rats would show up. Hacked a can, had looted it and no sooner had I arrived near another can than my Heron goes pop.

I learned all about ghost sites after that.

No they're not. It's cans exploding based on a timer when you land on grid in ghost site. Normally you should be able to do 2 cans after that site will explode and rats will appear and shoot you too. Usually there's decent loot in only 1 can anyway

Pretty sure you're wrong here. The cans dont explode until after the rats arrive. At least that is how it has worked every time I've done these sites, which admittedly isn't a huge data set, but probably around 30 times (any time I find em)

This is correct.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

I watched the sequence often enough to know that first the npcs wil warp in. Then the cans will blow up and then they will stay and pop a few shots at anyone present or just leave.

What I usually do is warp in, loot 1-2 good cans, warp away and then warp in again cloaked and at range. Sometimes unsuspecting ship gets popped and I get to loot their wreck ;)

In my experience its better to just hack the 1 can that has the best loot if ur in a frig. That way you walk away with ur ship and the goods without any unnecesary risk.

Just because i am blond does not make me stoopid !

There is plenty of time to do two cans. Also sometimes you can have two BPC's per site and wasting that chance... I dont know.

The timer doesn't start until someone 'uncloaks' on grid.

If you use a tanked stratios you can stay on grid until the rats leave, finish repairing armor damage and then warp off.

Have you noticed like the npc's that spawn at ghost sites have retained their old overview icons? ;)
