Accessing SDE via Ubuntu

I'd like to do some modelling. All of my technical programs (and technical programming preferences) are on the Ubuntu side of my setup. The SDE is, apparently, specific to MSSQL—which is a Microsoft-specific thing.

Does anyone know of a way of accessing these data via Ubuntu w/o having to install MSSQL on Wine?

(I've seen this, but can't make heads or tails of where the information I want is.)

There are mysql / postgres and sqlite dumps in the parent directory if you want to get at the DB data. db dumps just use the one with -latest in the suffix.
