At the moment i play eve on an alienware m17x r3 laptop (17" display) very soon i am going to treat myself to a new gaming lan system and a 27" ips display. Now my question is lets say i have been at work and played eve on the 17" display when i get home and fire up a 27" display will i have to adjust all my eve ui windows everytime or just the once for each screen? i know its no big deal to move a couple of windows but i would prefer not to have to do this everytime i play on alternate systems.

thanks

What does it help you if you know in advance ?

Send me two billion ISK and I'll make sure your boss doesn't find out he's paying you to play MMOs.

Or send me nothing and...

Link Shell + some other thing.

It makes seperate session client with different settings.
You can set a different display and different resolutions and you it will store them.

I have had this working before on different sized screens.

Implying that there is nothing you can do to change the outcome, what good does it do you to ask this question in the first place? By bringing this point to understanding I question the validity of this thread's purpose.

You will need to resize/move the GUI windows when switching monitors monitors. (I have the same situation, except for the part about playing at work, tsk, tsk.)

To Jenshae Chiroptera's point you could create two installs with different settings and rely on the new shared cache to keep the disk space usage to a minimum via download-on-demand.

I have a similar need to you. I use eve in windowed mode when running my incursion fleet which as you would imagine requires a precise setup on all the accounts. Most of the time when I'm playing eve I'm doing general non precise stuff and as such I wanted to keep UI changes separate from my precision boxing setup. So I created a symlink using the information at the following website.

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients

I now have an install dedicated to my boxing activity and another install for when I'm doing anything else (including casual boxing). The UI setups and such are completely independent of each other.

Don't play Eve at work?

There, problem solved, plus the bonus problem of timesheet falsification being crazy illegal to the point of potentially resulting in prison time past a certain point in some jurisdictions.

Well in the uk we do get meal breaks so playing eve or at least logging in to check up on something is not actually a breach of any contracts or rules. Thanks for the replies :)

I think some wires maybe crossed here with replies i will be using a completely seperate pc and 27" display so when i login on my laptop will the settings be specific to that machine and when i login on the pc+27" display will the setting be specific to that machine.
I will NOT be using 2 displays on 1 system
cheers

i use a 17" dell xps 1080 with an external dell 24" 1200 monitor and my ui is fine when dragging to other screens, only movment that might need is the dscan may cover the top of the chat but really its only because the 1200 resolution compared to 1080. but its nothing serious

You will be fine, the window settings (sizes, positions, chat windows) are stored on your PC locally, not with your account in the cloud.

Even if you were using two monitors of different sizes on a single PC, you could still get around this problem by using two separate shortcuts to launch the launcher (via junction points)

It depends. Twisted

If you use separate installations on the laptop and the gaming system then you have to adjust the data once. It is saved somewhere locally.

If you build up a system where the settings are exchanged between computers (e.g. using dropbox and add the settings folder to the sync folders) then you have to readjust it every time.

I don't know when I did it the last time but I already brought up the improvement idea to be able to save UI settings (layout, windows etc.) and recall them from a pull down list.

^^^^ This. Playing on separate machines = separate client settings storage local to each machine. There's no cross-talk other than the actual ingame stuff.

Implying and assuming are NOT the same thing, and assumption is the mother of all **** ups.

The new system will be a different system, so no you won't have to switch. There are workarounds for the scenario you have set up now. For example, that's one of the legal uses of ISBoxer and software like it (swapping settings but not using repeated input).

i would still ask your boss if he is cool with this. Since using company networks even in your free time for gaming could cause problems. Asking never hurts. He/she will allow it for sure since spaceships are serious business too.

but back on topic:
if the different screen resolutions causes problems i would try to install eve twice. Both installs would use the same cache anyway so the footprint overhead would be minimal. If it works as i think it does, each eve install would setup separate sittings.. so you could configure one for at home and one for work. (i might be wrong and it doesn't work, i never actually tried that)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
