Are Kill Boards Having Database Issues?

I am not complaining, just curious.

I checked for both my main pvp characters. It seemed strange that both my kill counts seemed to have gone down. Was looking through to see if they stopped counting noob ships or shuttles or something, but seemed to find there are a lot of old mails missing. One guess is it has something to do with kill mail verification standards. Perhaps many (most) of the old kill mails don't match the required standards for the killboards anymore (anyone remember manual uploading lol).

Anyway, I just thought it was strange and no one seems to be talking about it that I can find which is also strange.

Zkill pages get strange after 2011.

Eve Kill seems to go back to Oct 2013. (Currently, though they were only going back to 2014 the first time I checked so they may be updating or something.)

I checked Battle Clinic (for science!) and am not going to try to analyze what I found lol.

Just curious if this is a problem with CCP servers, private servers, or something else? Is it intentional or not? (guessing not)

Anyone know any details?

First of all, all killboards are 3rd party (player) run and are not directly connected to CCP.

eve-kill is the old killboard engine. It has been updated and modified to handle the ever increasing load and that new and improved version became zKillboard.

Now, CCP have changed killmail formats a couple of times in the past and also introduced a more elegant way of grabbing them through CREST.

In the meantime, I believe that zKillboard team did a lot of development and database optimization. There may have been a drive failure or two, but they always manage to get it back from backups.

So, overall, killmails and the ways of getting them has changed a couple of times during the years as well as killboard technology, so some kills may be lost in the process or haven't been updated yet from the old format(s).

I hope this info helps Blink

EVE-kill draws your kills in pieces. It wont go all the way back the first time. When you load it a second time after a few minutes it will have more etc.
It has something to do with a "cronjob"?

zKillboard has changed from user API to full on crest. Since old kills may not be verifiable this way, they might be gone.

Both aren't perfect. I still prefer EVE-kill because its data is easier presented for me. If a kill-board changes anything, their developers will let you know with some text on their site.

CCP should make all kills public - problem solved.

I'm my own NPC alt.

They kind of are in a way. Anyone in your corp or the killers corp can see them, not searchable but they have access. It can be funny to look through Aliastra's kill/loss list.

I am 100 % sure, that some of my old losses are not in killboards. I have heard, it somehow relates to API - if player never created valid API key, killboards have problem tracking his kills / losses. But I may be very wrong here.

That's right and also as someone not affiliated with a player corp I can see all the kills of wars, making a good portion of the kills public or available to a larger group anyway in-game.

The only way to make sure you don't lose any killmails is to take the problem into your own hands.

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships
