We only have 4 sizes of ship overview icons (small, medium, large and hauler) but we have far far more than 4 classes of ship now.

I'm sure you'd agree that there's vast differences between the capabilities of destroyers, dictors, cruisers, faction cruisers, HACs, HICs, Logi, Recons, Battlecruisers, command ships and strategic cruisers... yet they all share the same 'medium' ship overview icon.

I don't think the current ship icons have been changed since, ever? Some new icons would be nice to reflect todays diversity in ship types, and maybe help improve the overview.

This was actually tested back when they were proposing a UI overhaul. I think it was something like a triangle for frigate/destroyer hulls, a smaller square for cruiser/BC hulls, a pentagon for BS hulls, and a big square for capital hulls (industrial hulls retained their current rectangle).

The UI overhaul was eventually shelved due to it being the "extra time" project of a single dev, not a major project with a whole team assigned. When players began raising things that needed fixing in the new UI, there simply wasn't enough time to get it out and the concept was left to gather dust.
