Bringing meat to eve space battles

Today I've met http://www.starfalltactics.com project. It's an RTT and one of the main feature is a fair hiting system. I wonder how it could be in Eve? I always feel frustration when some missiles hiting me flying through giant wrecks of dead ships.
Anyway. I think if CCP will implement such system, it can add more depth to battles.

+ lag.

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

I don't see anywhere written "MMO" on that game...

Though might have been just my lack of looking.

It's somehow described in "Galaxy Conquest" in "Features" on main page. I don't fully undestand whole things at this moment, but there will be a global map with territory claiming, PvE and PvP missions. Everything rotating around your fleet, not certain character. A lot of details they describing in kickstarter campaign.

There was system like that in EVE, it was removed because of some problems. I heard this once from a veteran.

Maybe it was splash damage from missiles? I think i heard once that people were getting concorded from missile splash damage hitting other ships/structures.

No, splash damage and mines were something different. Same as cloaky frigates flying to a battleship using smartbomb against rats in High sec.

No... Kate is right. Some missiles did do splash damage way back in the day. It was removed because... well... the results don't really work out well in high-sec. Blink

Line-of-sight mechanics (which is what the OP is basically asking about)...
It would be the ultimate anti-blob mechanic the game could ever ask for. However, in high-sec it would have issues similar to the old splash damage missiles. Just get between a PvEer and his target in a cloaky ship... watch the NPC police rip up the PvEer.
You could alleviate this by adding in other mechanics that turn off weapons when someone non-hostile enters your firing line... but this wouldn't be foolproof.

And that's just ignoring all the extra check-recheck calculations that the server would have to do... which, I would imagine, increase by orders of magnitude in a game that still often struggles with 100+ vs 100+ fights in an un-reinforced node.

I'm pretty sure that I've read somewhere that when Eve was first released, it had this "feature" implemented. Guns didn't shoot thru anything and missiles flew around stuff (like ships, stations and asteroids) before they either hit or ran out of fuel. Very realistic, but if I remember it correctly CCP took it away since it created such a huge load on the CPU of the nodes that it created a massive lag if a fight had more then just a few ships.

I don't know if the powerful nodes today would be able to handle that load, but I doubt it...

Wait, are talking about normal lag or B-R5RB lag?

The latter, most probably multiplied by a few orders of magnitude.

Why should they introduce more mechanics when the average player in the game knows **** about the pvp mechanics?

Bacon was the last meat in EVE. It didn't turn out so well.

tl;dr - CCP doesn't like Bacon.

Yeah, exactly.

"I have no clue what is happening in EvE, but that game over there does it right. So why can't CCP get it right ?" … so annoying Roll
