Caracal still looks a bit like a coat hanger. Front on, it does appear rather aggressive in the picture.

But if you note how thin it is everywhere else, the degree to which its shape is completely unchanged (for example: contrast Moa rev. 1 & current Moa). This "new" Caracal is pretty much unchanged from its former lack luster toothpick box inspired ornament form.

That said, the new Chimera is fantastic! :)

Seriously, is it me or is this a case of "The Emporers New Clothes".

Why should I care that a ship has a new skin or not, big deal.

FIX the damn imbalances in the game.

This fixation of CCP's with fecal matter buffing is not good for us bitter twisted vets.

The patch released to day does nothing else than fixes the damn bitter imbalances.

dunno bout ya'll but absolutely diggin' the super realistic look they're going for with the new chimera. I hope more ships get that treatment.

I really suggest to read all the notes on the chimera redesign, that ship is going to be epic.

The art department is entirely separate from rebalancing issues, so it's not like they can take all the artists and say "stop drawing - code dammit!"

I have been wondering about the progress made on the new chimera. Is it still a thing even? Or has it been shelved?

I was actually wondering about this myself, for both of these new skins.

I personally find both of them very nice. They keep their general shape while obtaining much more detail. And I'm really liking those ideas for capital ship detail shown on the Chimera's pics.

The Caracal does look very nice, as for the converted water freighter turned carrier it does look improved but still doesn't hold a candle to the lovely Nid. Cool

Caracal looks great. Looking forward to flying that.

Chimera . . . amazing!!! I just bought two of them for when this goes live.

The Caracal is really awesome, and I wonder how the Cerberus will look like. This new Caldari design make these new ships really stand out to me, a jar of cookies to artists Big smile

Well, seemingly the new Cerberus will look something like this... Big smile Well, if CCPJorg is to believed!

I love the redesigns of some of the Caldari ships, to the extent that I'm considering getting a Carcal so that when they do release the new model I've already got the awesome ship ready! Lol

I wonder what they're feeding them over in Iceland; the standard of models does seem to be making great strides forward recently!

The Chimmy looks good (although maybe slightly too much Mordus Legion for my liking).
The caracal is a brilliant redesign, but I can't help feeling there are other cruiser hulls that desperately need a redesign/update more though. Ruppy, Bellicose, & Celestis, and arguably the scythe, thorax are all looking a bit dated and to me look :worse: than the current versions of the Caracal.

I'd agree the Ruppy and Bellicose could definitely use some love; Scythe is okay, but wouldn't hurt it to get some attention. Celestis is rather butt ugly, to be sure.

What I absolutely adore about the Caldari redesigns is how every little piece of equipment seems to serve a purpose. Makes you want to look around the ship and go "I wonder what this antenna thing does", "Are those heat sinks?" etc... I have to agree that the old Chimera was an impressive ship ...but only from a distance. When you zoom in you get the classic Caldari treatment of grey boxes stacked on top of other grey boxes. And as for the repurposed freighter lore, it can still be seen (in my head at least) through the awkward placement of the upgraded shield generators, and the large smooth surfaces could be extra armor slapped on top of the old hull. All in all, I wouldn't mind with a total Caldari redesign...

Also -I've asked this before, but does anybody have any idea who did the mordu/blackbird/chimera concepts? It seems to be the work of the same artist along with some other designs I'm not sure of. I'm becoming a fan of this guy's work and I can't find anything on him anywhere.

The caracal doesn't look nicely done. Its just boring deviantart "how many polygons can we fit to distract the eye". Why not just upsize the shapes of the condor, and mold them to the current framework of the Caracal. Would be a 50% improvement, and definitely better than this garbage.

Don't kid yourselves. Even the dirtiest pirates from the birth of EVE have been carebears. They use alts to bring them goods at cheap prices and safely, rather than live with consequences of their in game actions on their main, from concord to prices
