Size of Eve disk space-wise

Simple question, how big of a file size is Eve when trying to download the client on a machine that has never run it before (including what ever size of any patching it would need after installation and such)? The reason I ask is because I was gonna try and downloading the client on an old laptop I have to make an emergency login to strip down a pos that is at risk of running out of fuel, but I would be using my phone's internet on a limited data plan and worry that I would incur penalties for going over. Long story, link is below to explain why...

250 MB to 7GB - download on demand is now a thing.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

What if I move my desktop's Eve Cache over to the laptop (it's installed on my desktop just not on the laptop)? Would that significantly reduce the amount of downloading needed? Isn't that what the recent changes to the resource cache folder supposed to be for?

yes you can copy the cache files to different computers

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

You can copy the Cache, and copy the normal Eve directory, and be left having to download nothing at all.. I've done that a fair bit in the past..

Otherwise ya, it can get huge..

I'll try that and see what it does. Unfortunately, I would still have to download anything missing since the beginning of April when I had to cut my ISP off (missing the last Schylla patch and all of Mosaic).

Btw, on an unrelated note...what the flip is this, CCP?

My account is over 5 years old and still has until mid May.

I do wonder why you'll have to install it on your laptop though. The only answer I can think of is that your pc doesn't have a WiFi-adapter and you can't borrow one from your friend either.

Actually, if a phone has a USB port, you don't need a WiFi adapter at all. I used to connect to the Internet through my phone's connection just by plugging it in an USB port on my computer. And it wasn't a fancy phone either... Nokia C5 03 (Symbian phone).

My desktop doesn't have a wifi adapter nor will it recognize her phone as a network device (it will see it as an Apple phone with storage capacity, but it doesn't even show up in available networks). Ive already checked to make sure device discovery or what ever its called is turned on and that its set to look for all types of connections and tried a few other net little tricks, to no avail. Its strange, you would need the phone connected via usb to the laptop for the connection to show up at all, so it makes sense that the usb connection would be good enough even without wifi on my rig, though it seems to be giving me the proverbial finger in that regard -- go figure. Im gonna wait till wed to try an download the installer anyways since her data plan gets reset by then, just in case. If it doesn't work or looks like it would run up the bill to make it work, then I'll just have to hope that the pos is still there when i get back, but it wont be the end of the world if it inst. Hell, it'll be a nice lucky find for someone I guess. Either way, I appreciate everyone's feedback and advice, so thank you for that.

PS, if someone does find it floating out there in the near future, do take care of the skiff...she's seen a lot and saved my ass a few even over the years.

Make sure you've got the cache location correctly pointed in the Launcher settings if you've moved it to a different location on the laptop.
Basic no brainer of course, but I'm betting it left quite a few head scratching and GBs worth of re-downloads off the CCP CDNs right after Scylla.

{whistles non-chalantly} Just out of passing interest, what, umm... what system is the POS in? {subtly nudges notepad out of view}

Tell you what, if things don't pan out with the laptop later today, I'll drop by here later on and drop in a system name. Hell, maybe I'll turn it into a scavenger hunt of sorts and start with hints like region/constellation/then system to see how fast someone can lock down on it's location. It might be a while before I'm able to come back to Eve anyways, so it would be likely the pos won't be there if this doesn't work. Don't worry, if it comes to that, I won't leave you guys hanging. Good news, the tower and all modules/items/ships were successfully recovered this morning and it only took a little under 300mb of downloading to do it. It was a pain, laptop's sorely underpowered specs could barely handle Eve, video driver kept crashing and frames were pitiful.

The bad news is that means no loots for you guys.

Btw, for future reference (in case someone else wants to try this), I migrated the SharedCache folder and install folder as recommended to their respective locations on the laptop where they would have been on my desktop (SharedCache was in ProgramData, and the install was in Program (x86) ). After that, launching the launcher initiated a few updates and voila, Eve booted up.

Once again, thanks to all who gave feedback and suggestions. Now, I must go...
