Howdy,

I am returning... again lol
After about 2 years, I have 2 accounts my main (this one) and another i made before i left last time a Mimitar for pure combat.

But i cant remember much of anything lol, I have many ships on each, all of which various types.

Gnosis
Noctis
Harbinger
Anathema
Retribution
procurer
and retriever

Among others scattered about lol.

Now is mining still good to do? as i can use exhumers now but need the funds to buy my 1st one.
Now i see i have a pure exploration ship the Anathema but i cant remember how to use it haha, is exploration lucrative?

I guess i need to get learning all my stuff again, My Retribution has focused laser II and scorch II ammo is this good, if i remember rightly it is.

I think basicly i need a hand into getting back into everything again haha. Thanks

Draco

Mining is ok, some of the ores will be changing soon, check the recent dev blogs / EVE Update web page.

Be aware that there are miner ganking groups that try to suicide-attack barges for fun, so it's recommended that you use the tanky barges rather than the maximum yield barges, and tank them. Also, stay aligned and watch local, so you can run away if attacked.

Exploration can be lucrative; the problem is that in high-sec, you have 75% of the player base competing for the low end exploration sites, and as such they're almost immediately probed out and looted, probably before the (slower) novices can even find them.

Patch this Tuesday, why not wait until then, and create a character / do the new tutorials opportunities system, as a refresher for the game. Also, feel free to ask more questions here.

Mining was never a good thing to do.

It's like being on the lowest trophic level possible.

Ah i've just seen the updates.

Haha looks like i've come back 2 days early :D all of that looks really good, though i've never been to null sec. never really left the high sec systems :/

So mining will only really be good in the patch but only in null sec?

mining is oki in hisec. get your procu, tank it well, and you can cover your t1 pvp losses. if you do it alone. for a procu, 0.6 is perfectly safe. i mine semi afk with a procu, 1 extender, 3 invuls, a dcu and a mining upgrade. and im usually mocking the ganker code guys in hek xD still lost 0 procus. =) btw if i would get ganked, i would attack the gankers. the ganker cats and thrashers are low on ehp. -1 ganker is -400 dps in 10 secs. if i wouldnt be afk, with attacking them, and overheating invuls, i think i could tank about 8-10 cats. in 0.6. and if i get ganked by megas... im gona whore on as many mega kills as i can, and gladly lose my procu xD btw, a silly code guy proudly showed me a killmail like that... 5 or 6 megas killed a procu... those ppl are insane xD i mean that was a suicide ganking =D

He means fit it like this:

[Procurer, Supa-tank]

Damage Control II
Mining Laser Upgrade II

Medium Shield Extender II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Thermic Dissipation Amplifier II

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

Hobgoblin II x5
Hornet EC-300 x5

(NOTE: use the above fit as a template or goal)

Okay... first... go back and do the tutorials. They will get you reacquaint with the game again.

Second... there are multiple forms of tanking.

- Active Armor: increase the damage resistances of your ship and/or enhance armor repair units.
- Armor Buffer: increase the damage resistances of your ship AND the raw armor stat itself (using plates)

- Active Shield: increase the damage resistances of your ship and/or enhance shield booster units.
- Shield Buffer: increase the damage resistances of your ship AND the raw shield stat itself (using shield extenders)
- Passive Shield: increase the damage resistances of your ship AND the shield recharge rate (using shield rechargers and shield power relays)

- Hull Tanking: increase the raw hull amount on your ship (using Reinforced Bulkheads or Transverse Rigs) and slap on a Damage Control.

How do you know what tank to use?

- look to see what raw stat is highest (armor or shield?)

- look to see what bonuses the ship has (some ships have bonuses that enhance shield or armor)

- look to see how many low and medium slots you have.
----- more low slots? Probably an armor tanker.
----- more mid slots? Probably a shield tanker.
----- equal (or near equal amount) amount of both low and mid slots? The ship can go either way.

- what kind of situation are you going into?
----- for PVE you want to use some kind of active tank
----- for PvP you want to use some kind of buffer OR active tank (don't mix the two)
----- for mining
-------- in high-sec, use buffer tanking. No exceptions. The NPCs are not tough and your only fear comes from other players who will try to kill you in less than 15 seconds (which is too fast for an active tank to keep up)
-------- in low-sec, null-sec, and wormhole space... buffer is preferred but active tanking does have a place.

I would suggest that you rerun the tutorial and career agent missions to reacquaint yourself with the basics. They've been updated a few times in the last couple years.

OP you need to re-find your place in the game. I suggest that you try some tutorials then try missions to get the feel for piloting a ship again and maybe then try some exploration and mining. Figure out what you like and spend more time doing that. If you have not tried any PvP yet I also recommend giving that a whirl. If you can not afford the ships to do so there are people around like myself and others that would be willing to throw a couple of handfuls of ships at you.

Thanks everyone, I think Ill wait until tomorrow and follow the opportunities :D

But i think i'm going to dabble with Exploration, as i have an Anathena already. And i'm currently looking at buying a Stratios, mainly because they look awesome and sounds like they can hold their own in combat too. :D

Oh yeah, they're good for getting fights , people just don't think of it as much of a threat but it's **** vicious if you fit it well.

Good for exploring as well.

if your ship and clone are cheap don't be afraid to jump into wormholes when you see them. The hacking / archaeology sites in there usually don't have any combat. So you can run those sites in your scanning ship. There is definately skill to doing those efficiently so some googling or youtube search could save you a trip or two to the school of hardknocks but however you do it there exists the possibiliy for you to make good isk in them. Also you can go from hole to hole to hole so don't be afraid to do that either as you can always scan your way back to high sec.

I just want to repeat there is a learning curve to operating in wormhole space so don't get stressed out when you loose a ship or two.

Yeah sounds good, I remember venturing into wormholes before, so i'll need to look into it again.
I have about 10 mill SP :/ so clones may be costly. I did play this game for a long time before on and off, i have multiple characters on different accounts also. with varying SP.
I am able to pilot most ships, T2 of each class. and covert ops, assault frigates and electronic warfare ships. and only require about 10 days of training for Strategic cruisers and the like.
I used to have A LOT of experience but being away for so long i'm a bit rusty, but i'm sure some quick catch ups and ill be back in the game. :D

Clone costs were removed from the game! No need to worry about that anymore. Erg was referring to the cost of the implants in your clone - which of course varies according to the risk you are willing to take with it.

If you're looking at the Stratios for PVE it is a good ship for many types of combat exploration. However, if you want to PVP I would start in something cheaper to get you reacquainted. A LOT has changed in the last few years regarding ship balancing. Many of the cheaper ships have become much more viable and can easily make you feel silly when they kill your expensive toy.

:O clones gone? wondered why i couldn't find clonebays on any stations lol. What does that mean if we die then? do we still lose some skill points? Or do you only lose your implants? and obviously the cost of you ship?

thanks.

*ah never mind i just read up on it. Thats awesome you no longer lose skillpoints! I can afford to be more risky now lol.

Clones and clone bays are still there. Just clones can hold all your skillpoints per default now without extra costs. Hence you don't lose skillpoints anymore when podded in a basic clone. But your imps are gone as before. There is also a change to pod express. You can set your medical clone to an arbitrary station only once per year. Setting to current station and to your NPC corp home station is not limited.
