Gila is overrated for lowsec DEDs imo. The tank isn't that good despite the resist bonus because passive tanking is very slot inefficient and for active tanking the Gila has terrible cap which means you end up with less low/mid slots to work with for damage and damage application. Then there's drone travel time which cuts into your dps especially for very spread out spawns and also because you usually won't have the slots to fit drone navigation computers. Ishtar and Tengu are far superior.

If you don't plan killing people who invade your plex the VNI is just as good (better with sentries) than the ishtar. If you wanna kill people invading then a pvp fit ishtar or tengu is good.

It doesn't get the good resists and more importantly the sentry optimal + tracking bonus. It's definitely a good stepping stone to the Ishtar if you're lacking the skills though.

Even with the nerved damage.... the Ishtar is still one of the best choices for lowsec combat plexes. You just have to adapt a bit. Kill the frigates/cruisers with sentries, then switch to heavy drones or geckos for the bs.
