What if Eve offered people the chance to design a character BEFORE they bought the game. Once the character was made they'd have the option of saving it and buying the game with that avatar. It may attract some people and wouldn't be that difficult to do.

EVE has a free trail which allows you to spend as much time at the character creation screen as you want without chipping away at their game time

Right but I know people that don't want to commit installing it and would rather just try out the character design to see if they'd like it in a quicker way.

Wouldn't this kinda fall into the area of "creating false expectations" and "false marketing" ?

I mean... you can tinker with the character creator all you want... but after subscribing to the game (you don't "buy" EVE) a person will find that the core of EVE is pretty much centered on spaceships, the market. and conflict... not "looking barbie good."

People's expectations will always differ from the reality in any game. This is just another way to help advertise it. Why not?

because vets want all few remaining traces of WiS removed from EVE as "unneccessary", so trickign new players itno thinking there is something resembling WiS in EVE would be false advertising, when a majority fo the older players (the same ones still using windows 98 or XP) will do everything in their power to keep CCP from adding anythign to the game that isnt "spaceships adn only spaceships"

heck, they were the reason CCP eventrually decided to develop DUST rather than integrate an FPS component with integration as the only purpose into EVE to start with, instead of a doomed-to-fail standalone PS3 game

The issue with incarna was at the time eve had more than a few issues that needed to be resolved. OOh ahh features to act as a distraction tend to not go well. This is how lemon car sellers work. They polish up the crappiest turd real nice. Its still a lemon with issues no how pretty it is.

CCP was also still in the 6 month patch cycle. Incarna brought nothing to the game gameplay wise as I recall and shot that year to hell for patching imo as it took 6 months more to get a real patch.

Its not the vets hate ooh ahh things...its that they actually play the game. And see the issues often. Many of us have rl's too,,,in eve for 1 hour a day we want the working part of the game you know.....working.

EFT but in different manner where you could create character instead of ship.

"The message is that there are known knowns. There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know" - CCP

its not that EVE had issues to be resolved, there was a large part of the player community, adn still is, calling for the complete removal of EVERYTHING not strictly related to being in space, in spaceships, they are of the opinion that even if everything else is working perfectly in EVE, CCP would be better off firing developers than putting them on a team for anything that doesnt involve spaceships in space. they are specifically opposed to the concept of avatars and WiS
