mmm.... cannot say for sure but i recall something 20+ jumps with couple of them into low-sec in one of lvl3 storyline missions i have got ten back in 2010... Asked my corpmates to help but no one of them joined: "it's low sec! don't even try!".
But i was stupid and brave and brought my shiny Vexor there. Found scary low-sec to be pretty empty, mission is easy and reward is cool (it was something like +3 implant). But yea.... It was lots of jumps to destination system.

Yes I've had to do over 60 once for "Serpentis Secrets" in nullsec, and I did not get the final escalation. :P

I was getting 30 jumps between stages on Hunting the Drudge (sp?). Didn't matter in the end as I lost my exploration ship to a cheeky Lesser Gurista's Covert Research that I hadn't researched beforehand. Guess the clue was in the name...

True Power Ship Yards - 22 + (escalated to) True Intentions - 26 .. would have gone further but 7/10 was too hard for me and those expeditions in low and null are very very often in very populated systems. So i stopped.

But "Pulverize" is quite often a lot of jumps.

This was probably due to your route setting being set to "Prefer Safer". If you set it to "Prefer Shorter" it should be much less jumps, but will take you through Low-Sec.
But i do agree, escalation distances are completely messed up right now.
