Make all vanity items consumable

Is there any chance that clothing items can become consumable, like SKINs and the Golden Pod? Vanity items pretty much drive themselves into the ground as a result of never being consumed.

Unlimited and limited items would benefit at the same time. AUR store items would benefit from a sink, which over time means more AUR sales... and in-game sources of LP items would see more business too.

I think the concern is over having stuff people paid real money for become easily destructible when it serves no substantive in-game purpose. I know I wouldn't bother with most of it if I knew I'd lose it on pod death (or any other way, really).

Also SKINs aren't consumables, they're a licence that you apply to your account and you can then use it infinitely. If anything the current clothing at least has a remote chance to be lost in transit if, say, Goons decide they need a shipment of officer's jackets or something and it gets blown up on the Jita undock...

Consumable as in bound to the character & selectable from a menu like SKINs (rather than reversible back to market).

Effectively, applying a SKIN to a character removes it from market just as permanently as destroying it.

This is a sink that would renew the ISK value of items rather than flooding market until the ISK value approaches 0.

is this because you buy aurum and cant sell your goods? what reasons do you want them to be consumable, make them consumable and if the price does not fall by 97% then nobody will buy them, if the price falls by 97% then you will need to buy more to keep up with the demand of the cheap prices, vanity items isnt something i want to have to keep stockpiling tbh 1/10

I stated in the OP, vanity items would maintain their ISK value on market, rather than crashing into the ground.

If AUR items are removed from circulation by being applied to a character permanently, to have more you would have to make more AUR purchases. That's just good planning for something you put in the AUR store.

With virtually no consumption (removal from circulation / sink) to balance AUR item creation, each AUR purchase floods supply.

This is bad for the same reasons that limited edition things are good.

nope i dont want to have to keep stockpiling angel cartel jackets which aint cheap so someone can make more isk from aurum, you cant tell something to remain its isk value on the market because the market is player run

you were kind of asking for opinion when posting in the forum titled "ideas discussion" Cool they maybe valid for you or anyone else who buys aurum but making them destructable means nobody will want to buy them at current market prices.

I'm going to disagree because I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Not only would binding a vanity item to a character (permanently) benefit market by providing another ISK sink, but those items would behave in a healthier... fashion... in terms of supply and demand.

'Consumable' may have been an unfortunate choice of words, given EVE's attitude towards item destruction. I'm pretty sure what OP is suggesting is that vanity items become bind-on-equip, not that they be lost if you get podded.

No-one would ever have to buy a replacement for an item they'd bought*, but they wouldn't be able to sell it on if they got tired of it, either.

*Assuming they never get struck by a sudden brainstorm and unplug the golden pod implant, or something along those lines...

I would say this is an excellent idea but only after a character customization UI redesign. I have about 70 separate items and it would seriously clutter up the UI. CCP would have to add some sort of way to easily sort the variety of times for this to be bearable to use.
