Best Drones For Worm

I'm a complete newb (Gallente faction), playing this game for 3 days and I want to divide my time between mining to get ISK and doing PVP/pirating. I did some reading and the Worm seems to be a good fit for the PVP/pirating part and I have a good build in mind, but my knowledge is still (obviously) very limited. I just want to know which type of drone(s) would be best to use on it so I can research in advance. Thanks!

this belongs in S&M

Light combat drones, obviously. I always load my worm with 2x hobgoblin II and 3x warrior II.

People say that using cheap ships is a good way to learn how to fight other capsuleers. Unless my drugged memory tricks me, the Worm does not count as cheap for a beginner. You might want to reconsider.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I'm honing my skill with rookie drone ships, but that's what I'm aiming towards in future and want to train the right skills. Thanks again.

Light drones are awesome with a worm. That little thing can dish out some proper DPS.
Forget about those missile launchers btw. If you can fit them all, good stuff, but drones will be your primary weapon.

All drones come in 4 types and follow racial damage types:

Caldari (Hornets) - Kinetic damage
Gallente (Hobgoblins) - Thermal damage
Amarr (Acolyte) - EM damage
Minmatar (Warrior) - Explosive damage

I use warrior II's on most ships. Thats because warriors are the fastests of the bunch and have the best chance of caching frigs. Hobgoblins do most damage tho.

IF you know your opponents resist profile in advance, you can use the appropiate type. But for general purposes, I'd go with the Warrior II's.

Considering the price of a Worm, I'd advice you train make sure you've trained some proper drone and frigskills.

Good luck!

As a returning newb I will suggest that the tristan is a popular/cheaper alternative drone boat. For PVP/pirating I have found checking the killboard websites provides great insights to viable/popular ships with corresponding fits. Look for people who have lots of kills with only 1-2 people on the kill report for solo set-ups.

I fought a guy using those, he instapopped an algos and a tristan. Then I brought a buffer vexor. The only reason I got him in close was because I dual webbed his drones and started killing them, but even with 2 webs on him when he got close he still managed to get away.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

If you are a total noob, I highly recommend you start with T1 frigates and ghetto fits while you gain experience in combat.

All you are going to do with expensive ships as a PVP noob is feed someone else's killboard and your own frustration.

Start out flying cheaper ships

Imicus
Kestrel
Condor

would all make better choices initially
and between them they focus on the strengths of the worm

drones + missiles

as a downside you will however be training both shield and armour tanking skills
though technically this gives you more diversity and choice, so it's not a downside on a longer term basis

edit

personally I'd recommend that you increase your ambitions slightly to Cruiser classed ships

The Gila and Ishtar are both excellent drone platforms

people will cry "but the Ishtar is being nerfed into oblivion" ... over-reaction to change is very common in eve
generally it is safe to ignore statements like this

Tristan or Incursus to start with would be my advice. Tristan has better drone stuff, but the incursus is a tanky little bugger and will be a good choice for learning some of the tricks. Both are a fraction of the cost of a worm, so losing one or two or ten of either will be much less painful.

Once you're comfortable with flying frigs you might want to consider stepping up to an algos.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

going to take a LOT of mining to afford to play with worms. I'd say focus everything in combat and maybe exploration, and make your isk that way.

Welcome to EVE!
Just want to let you know that just because tech 1 frigates are cheap, doesn't make them rookie ships. There are only 4 rookie ships which each of the factions start out with.

If you are looking for a cheaper drone frig try a tristan really nice little ship, not as high DPS as a Worm but also not as high price...
