Bidding farewell to space explorer Messenger

The Space craft launched on August 3rd, 2004, with the mission to study the planet Mercury.
Messenger Entered orbit on March 18, 2011.
During its 1487 days it has completed 4055 orbits with over 250k pictures and over 10 TBs of information of the innermost planet.

in 17 days from this post. Messenger will be no more and will be buried into the surface of Mercury , the planet it has sent so long studying.

On April 8th, Messenger ran out of Hydrazine in the tanks, The Team responsible for Messenger devised a plan to use the Helium that was used to pressurize the tanks to keep the probe flying just a little longer.

Using the last of the fuel to reduce speeds and adjust height, it is estimated that messenger will crash on the opposite side of mercury facing away from earth, unable to send the last bits of data it will observe before its end.

We salute you Messenger and the team that has kept her flying for so long.

From the title, I thought this was a leaving EVE thread with the OP saying that his space exploration game had just turned into instant messenger.

while it couldn't do a selfie, the Messenger team was wanting to send as much data and pictures as it could just before impact, with the estimation time and location being on the opposite side of us facing the sun, the probe wont be able to talk to earth before its fate is met.

We seem to have that issue when a celestial object of significant size is between us and the item of communication. Time to get some solar powered Legrange point communication relays sent up to places like the Venusian and Martian L-points. Elon Musk can get the batteries going and we're good for a few decades, right? Big smile
