So I started this in the server status thing. As I already stated there, I will immediately take it down if a CCP member requests that I do so.

So anyways, despite all the crap that we give CCP, over the past almost 12 years, CCP has done an amazing job supporting and growing this community. At times we may be angry, at times we may be dc'd, some times we even blow up as a result of them. But despite that, they've in general done an amazing job, keeping content fresh, updating the game, and making it what it is today.

Let's show them our appreciation.

Edit* I'm an idiot, didn't post the link.
https://fundly.com/buy-ccp-a-beer/

In the event that CCP doesn't shoot this down, I'll need someone in CCP to contact me on how to get them their monies, even if that entails completely handing over the Fundly account to them.

Fixed link. ISD Ezwal.

While CCP on the whole do a great job, they are also paid for it as, you know a job, I work alot of hours, get things working and get paid, CCP do the same so they get their subs and you know get paid, so while they are good at their jobs tbh I am not going to throw myself at them for fixing an issue either.

So on behalf of me, well done for doing your jobs at a level better than some :-)

Its not the fact that they do so, its the fact that they continuously do so. They always keep this game modern and up to date with the best they can. They could have *shudder* gone the wow route and kept pretty much the same game throughout. Instead, they consistently keep this game at the top of what they can do. And to me at least, that deserves a beer.

Sorry I still refer back to my point of that is what they are paid to do. I'm not comaplining, they do a good job for the vast majority of times, that however does not distract from the point I pay X amount to play the game and thus in THEIR best interest to make it upto date and playable, I can if I so choose go elsewhere, which is my point, without out $$ there is no game, if the game is not working or updated they lose their $$ and the cycle is as it stands.

hey i'm with you, good job CCP, but not buying them a beer over it lol.

I pay netflix about the same as i do eve, I am not gonna buy them a beer when i click on netflix and watch my tv program and it does not crash because that's the whole reason I am paying..

See, you are missing the point I'm making, its not just the doing their job part. It's that over the past 12 years, every time the server so much as hiccups, large swaths of the community react like addicts and go "nererere MUST HAVE NOW!" and berate them and say things like they are doing a terrible job.

But realistically, how much time and energy do you think they spend releasing all of this content for us? Let alone all of this free expansion content, which by and large the industry standard for years was to charge us for every new pixel we download. CCP does that stuff for free. And before you retort with, no its not, I pay a subscription, look at it this way. If a doctor did a surgery to fix a problem in your body, which you paid for, and then fixed a much larger problem pro bono that he noticed, would you still say he was just doing his job because he was getting paid?

i'v been playing damned near 12 years.. paying my sub each month, I see your point, but negate it. Also it's not a 'free' update, it's just included in the monthly fee.. I am guessing you are one of the people who say they have "free text" or "free mins" on their phone contract, when infact they are just included in the monthlies. If Eve were free to play and only extras were paid for then I would agree 100%

I have for over 11 years paid my monthly sub, I expect a fun, updated and working game, simple as that.

If you want to reward someone for doing their job then good for you, hell we need more of you in the world, but for now i'll just stick to allowing CCP to be kind, great, willing and over and above enough to allow me to pay them to play this, how humble of them.

Thanks CCP for taking my money in exchange for a service, I salute you, if only other organizations would take my money in exchange for trying to supply a service that does what it is meant to... oh wait..

/edit/ for the record i think CCP do a good job, but if you want to buy someone a beer, go down to you local shelter and buy a volunteer who does alot harder work, for alot less a beer.

While CCPers may be paid, there's still a lot to be said for the guys that woke up at 3am to deal with an unexpected emergency; a thank-you is a decent thing, at the very least.

That said, the buy 'em a beer bit? Just went to my first Fanfest, and I brought a couple bottles of whiskey for appropriate folk. :) I'd recommend other folk do the same for the devs whose work they especially appreciate.

The moment they stop... it's the moment they can go look for another job.

MMO's are all about continuously improving the game. That's what makes people stay and come back (and bring new people in).

In the world of working, that's called 'overtime'. You usually get paid extra, or your employer is allowed to have you work overtime for X hours at regular rate.

It's easy to see that CCP dev's like their jobs, which is why they work so hard, but remember, they get paid to do it. It's also MUCH easier to go an extra mile when you get paid good money + like/love your work. That's pretty rare now a day.

Been around since the beginning.

I reckon CCP can buy their own beer, and would like to do that because each of them likes a specific type of beer, so I think they'd prefer to pick their own beer to buy for themselves.

CCP from the beginning has produced world leading technical excellency that stands toe-to-toe with any megacompany on the planet or better. No other game designer is producing graphics, crowd control, and programming on Eve's level... and all from a tiny ice island in the *** end of the North Atlantic.Shocked Don't know anything about Iceland, but something about that country must be producing super programmers. Cheers to them. Maybe all the ice keeps folks indoors perfecting their trades... idk.

From a game design, game master standpoint its been been an obvious learning process (many lessons painful or irreversible), but they are working at it and getting better. Eve has found a niche audience/client consistent enough to sustain the game and company. They've made some key decision in terms of ongoing free releases and upgrades that is probably the reason they've had the longevity they've had. Other MMOPGs start trying to charge for new content and releases and eventually folks start walking away (40 bucks + an ongoing subscription for a new type of ship? Forget that!). That decision by itself is probably the smartest thing the company did to sustain its success. Hope other game developers take notice and follow suit.

Looks like the current state of things are geared toward walking the fine line of retaining a core audience which is utterly intolerant of any change for any reason, while trying to make the game appealing to new-comers. Not an easy line to walk.

Charging for expansions, and thus having to account for fragmentation amongst the playerbase, would have been a nightmare for CCP.

EVE might have matured enough for them to be technically able to handle some client fragmentation but by now the subscription model is under enough pressure in the market, for that to simply not be a viable business path for CCP – instead, we get cosmetics in the Store.
