No, you don't.

After the SoE epic arc, which is basically the end of the "introduction" section of Eve, you are sitting on a few ships in the frig/destroyer category plus some miscellaneous mining frigs and about 30M isk in mission rewards and sold loot, which is likely partly invested in modules and skillbooks, or potentially a cruiser.

Been that way since the SoE arc became a thing, the trainers even point you to Arnon explicitly at the end of the training missions.

You can intentionally not finish the intro section, sure, but that's not the game shorting you, that's you intentionally deciding not to take the game up on the initial offer of free resources.

This doesn't change that you start with 5000 ISK and have to earn more ISK. It's not an initial offer for free resources. You have to understand the basics of the game to do the arc and then the arc itself takes several hours of play.

The last thing you need is a hundred million ISK in your first day of playing the game. It'll be gone by the second day.

I sold a PLEX immediately and never regretted it. Used it for skill books and to get into L3s asap.

I always hear people say don't sell a plex as a noob, but it was one of my best decisions.

This. You'll just end up buying crap you don't need to trick out the ship you won't be using in 3 days. Why? Because FNG's don't know any better.

Sit on it. The price isn't going to go down. Worst case scenario, you get the same ISK for it 6 months down the line. Best case, you get way more. It's a win-win.

Sheesh!

When I started I dropped the tutorials after the first,
knew ga e mechanics well enough from reading two weeks about them
before I even logged in!

Went hardmode and tried making money through stealing
and ninja salvaging, bought me an iteron and went trucking high/low routes.

Starting with 100mill is going easymode. No one really needs it
and it will define your whole future game if you start easymode already.

And BESIDES ... a noob with too much ISK will lose it cluelessly.
Faction fitted dramiel afk at the gate with a two week old char?

BOOM! Gone! **** move? Bullshit!
If it hadn't been me, it had been anyone else.

OP gives bad advise.
Keep the blueprint for times when here is ACTUAL need for the money!

Reaching for lvl3s to grind in a failskilled, failfitted ship is nonsense
and these people should get shot down one after one!

I see nothing wrong with selling it.

Look at it this way.

Leave it in your hangar and spend the next six months training for and doing missions and mining. Then quit from boredom.

Or:

Sell it, join a newb friendly PVP corp, and fund the next six months of learning the fun and exciting part of the game. Then continue to sub because you are part of a dynamic and social game.

I'm surprised at some of the advice in this thread. It's like some of you are advocating making the game as boring as possible for new players. New players don't need 100m? Of course they do if they want to have any fun.

You are right when we talk about people who need it easy
and need fast gratification.

And then there are players who might actually like to
have challenges and want to EARN their money.

Giving a noo money is not a good way of keeping them.
Money shouldn't be the center of attention.

What is wrong with the people to forget that having fun
does not automatically equal having money to spend?

Making things easy makes people spoiled.
Spoiled people make a crappy social environment.

I'm sure you understand that someone who has to work for money
will be better to have around than someone who wants it thrown at him.

It's not about the easy money, per se. It's about trading your one-time gift ship for a commodity (ISK) that flows like water through your fingers. If you want easy money, buy a PLEX. Fifteen bucks could be a couple of fast food meals or it could get you 800 million ISK. You're talking about giving up something much more valuable (sentimentally, at least) to get something much less valuable (100 million ISK). Someday you're going to miss having that gift ship, and buying somebody else's ship doesn't really replace it. This is a poor deal and an utterly unnecessary trade you're talking about making.

I just rolled a new char ...
... went through Hek ...
... got fanmail and 200 Million ISK donation.

Beat that for your first hour of playing.

You have to have trained industry and played enough to know where to find a manufacturing station and such, so he's not talking about people quite THAT new.

Honestly, there are a lot of people for whom 100 to 200M isk is a month's operating budget that it's not surprising that most people are just selling them early. Nothing wrong with that, if most people didn't sell early they wouldn't become more valuable in the long run in the first place, and if you judge a sale to be worth what you're getting your judgement is as valid as anyone else's.

Actually the newbie tutorial requires those 2 things
