[suggestion] Carriers POS Mode

With the recent removal of carriers ability to assign control of their drones a lot of people have said carriers are not worth the isk

So i figured since i hear the new type of structure wont have the POS shields we know and love why not move the mechanic to carriers and above?

now before you point out the POS shield is the reason carriers got the nerf hear my reasoning.

Carriers seem to me to have the job of transporting a fleets ships ships large distances and providing additional combat support as well as some BIG but slow guns.

at the moment it seems players mostly use them to run sites

one problem i see is once you jump a carrier into a staging point you need to have a POS or Station to put them in while people get their ships.

So to make carriers useful again i suggest they and larger ships such as titans etc get either an innate ability or a module that launches a pos shield but has certain restrictions.

1. )the ship is immobile (not even allow bumping/drifting to bypass this)

2.) the max time it can operate should be 60mins

3.) the ship is unable to use and weapons and launched drones become disconnected

4.) can not be used 10 minutes before or after a jump

5.) can not be activated if an enemy ship has established a lock

This gives carriers an important role as a transport/rearming/regrouping position in an engagement and reduces the risk in fielding these powerful ships.(NOTE: reduce not remove. you still need to propperly support the carriers otherwise the enemy will just demolish the shields then destroy the carrier)

The idea would be carriers have a shield size like a small POS and supers would be like a large POS

this would be in line with the way titans can act as a mobile jump bridge

The whole point of removing POS shields is that CCP wants to rip out the code behind them, burn it, and scatter the ashes at a crossroads so it can never come back.

Given that, I highly doubt that they will be interested in adding POS shields to carriers just when they'd finally managed to get rid of the things...Roll

Yey, 300 boundry checks per ship per tick. Melt them servers good, and make sure to completely welp any chance of rational subcap fleet setups, because now you can bring pos shields to drop aggression against you for a moment anywhere.

The OP said he is throwing out an idea based on what he heard.

FYI... carriers sre still VERY useful and VERY much worth the ISK you pay for them.
I mean... they are ginomous logisitics boats that effectively multiply the staying power of whatever forces you have on field. AND they double as a hauler with a jump drive!

The "problem" is that some players decide the value of a ship based on one or two preferred tactics or abilities... and when those are taken away they cry and whine saying "it's useless now!!"

tldr: not a new idea, not a good idea (imagine players spamming these things during a battle), and based on a false premise.
