Well first of all .... I don't care what you do as a new player you are fighting a severe "skill deficiency" against all older players.

I'm not going to tell you that there is not a skill point gap between newer characters and older characters as obviously there is. What I am going to say is that if a newer player were to purchase a higher skill point character, which does happen from time to time, that the end result when engaging in competitive gameplay with older more experienced players would largely be the same. On the flipside of that when you become and older player and then start a new character, which many of us have done, you realize that your skill points were not what was holding you back.

So while I agree with you that older characters do have more skill points and those skill points do give them higher attributes I'm going to say that in all likelihood if you were given a higher skill point character the end result of your encounters with older players would be largely unchanged and in that regard it doesn't make much of a difference.

You are also facing a knowledge deficiency which older crap ball players use to exploit the uninformed.

This game is very deep no doubt. Gaining: knowledge, experience and intel or the improved ability to gather and process intel and then using that: Knowledge, experience and improved intel gathering techniques to your advantage when engaging in competitive gameplay with other players is kind of the point of this game.

I say this as a player that does not enjoy nor seek out competitive gameplay so I'm not trying to justify my actions. I'm letting you know that these "older crap ball players" are playing the game according to it's intended design they are not exploiting some loophole or otherwise finding a way around the game design they are playing the game according to intended design.

You can make peace with that or not but that is eve.

I'm not sure who told you that there was "safe space" in eve but they lied to you. I've been here in the NC Q&A section of the forums for a while and I can tell you that you did not read it here.

Again kinda the point of this game. What you are describing here is not some unintended subversion of the game rather how it is framed in marketing propaganda.

One corporation experience does not represent all corps. That being sais there are many bad ones or ones that are meant for people that may opperate differently than you. I offer to help new guys in my corp whenever i can. Also there are plenty of former service members and current service members In game. Some people love camaraderie and their corps work that way, other people don't and have no patience to deal with new players. Each group has the right to opperate how they want.

I was in the USMC as well, to say that the military made you a certain way is how you reacted to it but does not mean that others reacted the same way. Accept yourself as who you are and work to overcome the challenges you face. That applies to real life or in game. Of course if you don't like the stress the game can have then by all means find something you enjoy. o/

This game is indeed a "sandbox" because it allows you to be messed with almost everywhere in the game including supposedly safe space.

Just buying and selling items can result in you being exploited. And if you don't think so you haven't done it long enough and don't understand what you are doing.

As far as getting frustrated to the point of quitting I have had that experience at least 4 or 5 times in my 3 months of playing the game.

This game can be really stupid, the players that exploit the stupid loop holes are even worse, and in general it can really drive you crazy.

However, every time I say to hell with it, why waste my time with a bunch of cretins, I usually come around to the sentiment of why should I let a bunch of poop heads beat me -- and I decide to give it another go.

I will guarantee you one thing though, if you stick with it you will become a better player, and who knows maybe you will soon be giving back what you got.

Best of luck.

Wait, you are still here....HAHAHAHAHAHA

And still sound butthurt....

A. There is no safe space. If you want safe space, go play Hello Kitty Online.

B. All you say that are exploits, are NOT exploits but mechanics working as intended. Please, Learn the F-ing difference.

@OP:

Sorry to see you go, just by your post alone it actually shows that you DO have the attitude of an EVE player.
Stick through it / In time give it another go, make friends in EVE (the more people you get in contact with, the more opinions on something you can receive + the more people you can "annoy" with your questions) and above all, have fun.
It is a very fun game to play, but it might mean that you have to get over that initial bump to actually "Get EVE".

If you are still playing, drop by in Help Chat - Reloaded and ask your Q's there.
You could also look into EVE University for an old and proven learning corp.

From the looks, you joined the first random corp you encountered and it turned out to be a ****** corp, which is very much possible (a lot of corp don't know what they are doing). But just cause 1 corp is bad, doesn't mean all corps are bad (if that were true, sorry girls...my ex ruined it for you all).

I'm just trying to point out that your comments here make me feel like you are taking this game too seriously. If you are not having fun by all means find something that you enjoy. However by coming here I'm assuming that you are looking for some input and don't have your mind made up for sure or you likely would have just left silently.

I definitely take it too seriously. I alluded that myself by saying that I needed to give myself a break. In your first post, you said something about the corp being one that just sought to collect taxes (I'm paraphrasing). That is what I reacting to. The blame, if you will, rests with me. I can't honestly say that they were even a bad fit, only that I seemed to need more guidance than seemed fair, and that I was having a hard time processing the emotions -- and again, I HATE that I got rude with someone during that sensory overload.

You are right that I am conflicted, but believe it or not, I didn't start this thread seeking feedback or to be convinced to stay. The title of this thread is "Thank You from a Departing New Player." I really did mean this as a thank you. I thought about leaving silently, but it seemed like such a nice opportunity to be complimentary. You see a lot of ragequit threads, but not so many "thank you vets and CCP from a new guy who just has his own quirks" threads. I didn't expect any feedback or responses, much less the quality, complimentary (really humbling) responses I've received. I just wanted to clarify my motives here. Thank you for sharing, ergherhdfgh. I almost sent you a private mail thanking you the first time, but I didn't have the ISK on hand to pay the required fee. Thank you again.

Hi Kick Axe. I do agree that newer players CAN be more vulnerable, but I've always perceived that to be the newcomer's duty to keep in mind, not the vet's duty. I have never been deterred by the sight of a more seasoned player. I'm sure there's a point where I can just be facerolled, but older doesn't mean better. Of course, you know, I chose to depart the game. So take me with a grain of salt.

I remember my first fleet fight. I had made a new character with the intent to learn PVP and started training combat skills. I'd already been playing for a few months, but mostly solo industry stuff. I did some research and stuck my new character in RvB to get some action.

Cara, thank you for sharing with me. This is one I'll be reading for a long, LONG time to come.

The pity is, your attitude is exactly the right one for the game, and in the right environment you'd thrive. Ultimately, its your call, but if you decide to give it another shot, there are organisations out there that would probably get you through the mental block you seem to have erected.

Thank you, Aralyn. That means A LOT coming from a fellow Goon -- I'm a long time SA member, though I've never engaged with GS here or there (just a benevolent LP poster/retro gamer). Thank you. I'll definitely take your thoughts under advisement.

First, brother, thank you for your service. Second, ALL I said was that the USMC was responsible for my commitment to service and sense of duty. For whatever reason, I've incorporated that into my gaming as well, but I do not think it should be so controversial.

ETA: Due to the move, and my status as a trial, I appear to be unable to contribute further. So I'll take this opportunity to thank for people for engaging with me here. Best wishes. Fly safe.

Hiya J'Poll. Pleased to finally interact with you. Thank you for your kind words and suggestions. Truth be told, I scouted that corp out in advance. I had my reasons and I stand by them. In hindsight, I do not disagree with people who say that waiting to join a corp is a good idea, but these people and the corp were perfectly fine. I was in app a few days and a member for only a couple, but they seemed a-okay to me. They certainly did not cause or have a significant role in what I experienced. I didn't have the opportunity to get to know them particularly well, but I'm truly bothered by this idea that my failings and difficulties would be imputed onto them, especially in so short a time. They're fine folk.

I'm sorry to hear you're leaving New Eden. As others have asked, I'd be sure you've truly experienced it all before calling it quits. There is so much out there to explore. That said, the risk reward model within EVE is very real, and I can understand how some people would have a natural aversion to that kind of risk.

We wish you luck in your future, and hope you decide to come back.

In the mean time, I am going to move this to the Out of Pod Experience as per the following rule:

Quote:
33. "Quitting" posts are only permitted on the Out of Pod Experience channel.

CCP recognize that during the course of gameplay a lot of friendships are made between players and that sometimes if a player is taking a break or departing from the EVE universe that they would like to say goodbye on the forums. Posts of this nature are only permitted on the Out of Pod Experience forum, and must be civil and well worded.

I'm not having a go at you btw, maybe we are just different. Some peoples idea of fun is a rollercoaster. Others hate them.

I'm an addict of the shakes.

Oh wow I did not realize people actually liked that feeling. I think you have shed some light not only on Eve for me and why I don't like PvP but life in general and why I always feel so different. Thank you.

There's this game called RealLife, with even more complex rules ... best of luck.
