Is C drive now required?

The new download on demand system is now live, and wants to move my game files to a folder on my C drive. My C drive doesn't have anywhere near enough free space for the Eve game files. Is there anyway to get download on demand to load to a different drive, or am I just screwed?

No, you can move the shared cache files anywhere. In fact, I moved mine out of the Program Files folder to avoid any problems with privileges (admin privileges) in the future.

Click on the launcher options and go here.

By default it puts them in C:\ProgramData\... but there's a browse button to change it to any directory or drive you like.

Though I wish CCP would have made the location text box editable, so I could just change the C to D..
Also it doesn't take any(much) additional space as to what you currently use, it's migrates the files over, rather than making a copy of them..

I moved it to a subfolder in the eve directory, never liked random stuff ending up in program files.

The launcher asked me the first time I started it today where I wanted the cache. Is it not working like that for some people?

That's what I was going to say. It's the very first dialog box you see after the launcher updates.

I put my shared folder to my D:\Games directory, so now I have 5 EVE related folders there:
EVE Online - for the main client, about 432 MB
EVE Online Buckingham - test server folder, currently empty
EVE Online Duality - test server folder, currently empty
EVE Online Shared Cache - this is the new cache folder, about 14,2 GB
EVE Online Singularity - test client, about 432 MB

It doesn't seem to to be correctly identifying the eve install directory, despite mine being on drive M: It told me it was installed to a folder on C: .... which doesn't exist.

Its easily fixable, but annoying. At least this patch didn't delete boot.ini or remove empty wrecks from the game, or make drones utterly unresponsive to commands...oh wait....

"Themepark" "Sandbox", these do not mean what you think they mean, EvE is as on rails as a freight train, and has as many attractions as Disneyland, but soundbites are easy, thinking is not.

I got news for you. If your C: drive is too small to hold ALL of EVE, then your computer pretty much is in the 20th Century and nobody living in the 21st Century can be blamed for that. If you're trying to get OUR developers to torture OUR game into a form that can allow you to continue to avoid paying for a REAL COMPUTER, get a life.
Ain't gonna happen. Not in THIS century, anyway.

Really?

The OP probably has his drive partitioned out so that only Windows resides on the C: Partition which does not have to be that large and keeps the rest of his programs/files elsewhere.

I had a window open, but it was rather small, and though it had scroll bars, neither of them worked. My only option was to click OKAY to continue.

Also the launcher NEVER restarts when it says it will. I always have to launch it a second time.

Partition a drive today? You're kidding, right? That's digital nailbiting.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

Wait now. I partitioned my C: at 10k to hold all my empty files.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Some of us like to like to have our multiple terabyte HDD/SDDs carefully organized with C: set aside as a boot for our OS and dedicated physical volumes for each OS/Media/Games/Work/video edits, and don't appreciate it when things arbitrarily attempt to install themselves where they like.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, it works fine if you just browse to the location you want the files.

120/128gig SSD's are quite common in conjunction with a 1-2TB HHD on market computers and custom builds from 2 years ago, e.g. the normal system most games are played on.

Hello all. Just checking - is it safe to move the file to my D drive (I am one of those with a small OS SSD - at least for the next week when an upgrade arrives) after it's installed?

Yes, it should work just fine.
