You want to keep all your overview settings and window placements and stuff right?

Where else would you put it?

Eh, my bad.

I have a small SSD with my OS and some frequently used programs, the rest is on other internal HD's to safe space on the small (200GB) SSD. I rather not have EVE on my SSD.

So um, where should I put this cache?

I have three HDD's:
80GB SSD - system drive
500GB SSD - with two EVE clients (one is junctioned)
Platter drive

1} If I put the cache on platter to save space on SSD's will it affect in-game performance?
2} How does this affect the junction install? Should I replace it with some new method?

Thanks!

naughty false quote in order to get the attention of a DEV :)

I have a (good) question:

When I run SISI, the new launcher asks me where to put the game assets. It offers me a default location which looks very much like a singular "main install" location.

If I subsequently allow TQ to use DoD, is it valid to use the same location? i.e. will assets be properly shared between the different versions, or should SISI have its own separate asset folder?

Awaiting an answer for this before I activate DoD

Many thanks

Can we still use the workaround to avoid the launcher altogether, or has that now gone the way of the jukebox too ?

Yea not sure who thought this was a good idea, doubt many people will bother to use it.

They did two mass tests on sisi for this purpose. They have the metrics they needed to determine whether this was going to be a problem or not. If it were, players who took part would have made a stink about it, but I haven't seen that.

No, restart your launcher

Is it supposed to be 7 GB if we checkbox "download all the resource files"?

Well I answered my own first question... installed it on platter drive and now game takes 2-3x longer to jump/dock/etc.

The 'cache' phrase (sorry) is a bit misleading and should really be named Master Install or something. The game uses these resources in addition to whatever settings/etc are in the EVE folder. Seems to be like a reverse junction or something... it's too early in the AM to try making sense of this.

[edit] Used the launcher to change location of the Resouce Cache and all it did was DL a 200mb file... the 13.6GB is still in original location. I'll move it manually and see what blows up.

[edit2] Tried restarting launcher before moving it manually and now launcher just hangs up. Process is running but nothing happening. This really should have been explained a bit better than the 'important info'.

A 7GB patch usually means you are patching to the wrong build. Restart your EVE Launcher.

Thank God for the exefile in the bin folder.

Launcher won't start after update and after I checked the download all file resources.

edit: apparently it just didn't close the process in the task manager window. I did look for it, but on the right side description column it didn't say CCP it just said "launcher" so I missed it at first.

Really.... the launcher*32 process sitting in taskmon doing nothing, and zero hard drive activity. Killed the process after waiting 10 minutes, restarted launcher without changing anything. The previous 220mb update was replaced by a 284mb update, followed by a 7.6gb update.

I'm about to just delete everything and repatch completely. This is beyond clusterfarked.

Manually moving the Resource Cache from initial location (platter drive) to new location (as selected via launcher, on SSD) worked. Apparently the launcher just can't be arsed to do it.

Back up the [initial platter installed] Resource Cache to external drive, then deleted it. Everything seems to be working fine now.

Although I'm a bit scared to even try running the junction install at this point.

If someone could elnlighten me on that topic please

Currently I have 3 EvE folders - SiSi, TQ 1st account, TQ 2nd account (as a walkaround to not being able to switch toons without relogging). At this moment each launcher/game updates separately and I'm ok with that.

With DoD will that change and if, how do i keep it the old way?

Can I patch all 3 clients and pick different cache folder for each or they will be somehow forced to use one?

Hmm,

After DT started launcher, patched everything properly and launched the game after about 15 mins, no issues at all.
Me saying, "well that went better then expected"

rebooting PC, started launcher, launcher broken (you know the usual TQ unavailable, you have no connection, restart launcher, blabla screen) ...

I would like to know if the shared cache can be used both for Tranquility and Singularity ?

On one hand I would think : No, as developments / environments might get mixed, on the other hand if I look at the filenames it are unique names so it should be possible to get them in one location?

Another good insight to have would be a word if the (network) performance is good if you place the cache on a network share/(NAS) server. If it's minimal it might be an idea to place it there

Tnx in advance for the answers

What about slow connections?

You can use the offline installer, or you can wait while the launcher downloads everything.

one last question: the Launcher behaves like usual if i dont change any settings and it will download the Patch/files as it normally does and the DOD is just for the ppl who dont dont to wait till the patch is downloaded before playing ?

If you do not change any settings in the launcher, then at first login after downtime on March 24, 2015, the launcher will convert all the existing resource files in your client to new file-formats in a location of your choosing. This is done so that you do not need to download the full client again. After this is done, the launcher will then patch the release, and you are all set.

If your connection is a bottleneck, then I'd probably recommend entering the launcher settings and ticking the "Download all the resource files" box. Doing this ensures that you have all the resources possibly needed in game.

This is (unfortunately) correct.
