I am already a 'god from the machine'. We tend to under-appreciate the sheer destructive ability we would have if Concord allowed us to target planetary populations. Even a reasonably ordinary missile armed cruiser has the ability to volley hundreds of nuclear tipped missiles (or worse!) in minutes.

As I said, the only real difference was the use of the word 'exactitude' - the idea that the weapon would kill only those we intended for it to kill - allowing it's deployment to remove those we regard as deserving of the fate without wiping out whole cities alongside them.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

Was I really unclear? What I was getting at was:

"Nobody should have power like that."

Not because we'd set out to use it for bad purposes, but because our wisdom and knowledge are limited.

It's precisely the not stopping anybody that's a problem here.

I'm not even sure it would stop me.

Respectfully, Mr. Tuulinen, there's a big gap between being able to kill lots of people and being able to kill everybody.

I assumed the use of the words "any number of people" was hyperbole. If it was not, then you're certainly right. I'll have to lean on Astera a bit and find out what in Divinity's Edge she's talking about.

I did, a little bit.

She seems to have initially thought of it the same as you do, but she didn't try to correct my interpretation or tell me I was taking it too far, either.

The ability to destroy, does not a God make.

When y'all can create stars and planets, and populate them with life, you might then be able to call yourselves small gods.

Destroying things doesn't mean jack.

Make something out of nothing and violate the laws of conservation of energy and thermodynamics and I might just start worshiping that person.

Capsuleers,

If I may have a moment of your time to indulge my curiosity, I have a question for you.

If you possessed a perfect weapon, that is, a weapon that could kill, maim or incapacitate any number of people with utter exactitude, without any risk of collateral damage. what would you use it for?

I wouldnt. I would sell it's services to those who wished to purchase its unique qualities. Priority going to the highest bids of course. The tricky part would be getting attention for one's services, without being noticed outright.

The weapon is entirely hypothetical, but it has no limits on range or destructive power. I find it interesting that none of you have stated you would use it for non-lethal purposes, to perhaps incapacitate those on your 'lists'.
