Not sure if this is the right section, so please feel free to move!

The recent Christmas giveaways has had me thinking for a while about CCP creating actual player 'named' mods that can be used in game, instead of just as one off trade goods.

What a great way to reward long term, loyal players or to mark out significant events with actual mods that could be used and kept in game as a longer term reminder of the many diverse contributors or stories (Legends!) that have built up over the years and entered EVE folklore, or even influenced the course of the game itself.

My initial thoughts on this were - how cool it would be to have actual mods fitted and used regularly such as :

'Chribba' strip miner or mining laser (instead of just a trade good)

'Pryce' warp disruptor (instead of a scale replica)

others could be more tongue in cheek -

'James 315' Warp core stabilizer / afterburner (to escape the gank)

'NAMED' jump portal generator (ala Asakai)

I have thought about where they could 'sit' in the power stakes, and I think making them relatively rare (but not too much!) and sitting them somewhere between T2 and DED mods would be fair, they could be equivalent to navy faction mods.

If they proved popular, why not expand the idea to incorporate some ships to 'celebrate' some of the greater/well known corps that again have contributed to making EVE the best game around, rewarding player and corp loyalty, and again leaving a permanent legacy in game items for Capsulers to fly and use in future years.

'Agony' Rookie Ship/Light Frigate

'Goons' Assault Frigate

'CODE' Destroyer

'RvB' Cruiser

'BOB' Battlecruiser

Actual ships, not skins. These could be like current faction ships and suit particular corps play styles, taking a little from different factions, and again I would think equivalent to Navy faction ships.

Im sure there are many other people or events that the good citizens of New Eden would like to recommend beyond these - particularly to reflect the longer term nature of the game before memory fades of the important events/corps/players (Like dear old BOB) that helped shape things into what we see today.

In view of these being 'the peoples mods' perhaps CCP could accept requests for suggestions for such items or maybe hold a poll or vote of the player base for their favorites and release, for example, the top 3 once a year.

Love to see other peoples views on this.

I have it on very good authority that some people received limited edition player named ships for Christmas.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Ahar. That's the problem with ideas like this, the grandiloquent originators then think their list of celebrities is populated with names that are well-known game-wide. Must be a roster of the kool kidz table. Name something after James 315 and I'll sign the commitment papers.

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

Not at all nothing to do with the 'kool kidz' - they are all on their way to fanfest!!. The ones picked were meant to stimulate debate and encourage other suggestions. I have no love for James 315, or what code do - but you have to admit, they have had an influence recently.

Pryce had something to do with the battle of Asakai getting so big. was one of the xmas gifts, I didnt pick that one, was using as an example of where a mod would be better than a trade item.

if you dont like my suggestions then do you at least like the idea in principle? If so, what would be your suggestions.

Unezka's Prober. Unezka's Analyzer. Unezka's Kitty (drone). Unezka's Heela (Gila). Unezka's Little Red Rocket (light missiles with the volume of rockets so I don't have to reload my Gila's RLMLs so often...).

CCP plz.

It's not really a viable idea, with how Eve's inventory system works. That's from a technical standpoint, rather than a 'is this a good idea' standpoint.

Personally I strongly dislike the idea. I don't think that we should be naming modules or ships after players aside from special event novelty items. I don't think they either need nor deserve 'permanent longstanding recognition through an ingame item'. Sure, players like James have added in some small fashion to the story of eve, but not necessarily in a very positive way.

Plus, we already have the news events that formally recognize helpful player groups, corporations, services, etc.

Don't be such a killjoy.

I would totally buy a 'Mr Epeen's Velator of DOOM' skin from the NES.

Inside of one of these ships I recently discovered a corpse sitting by his lonesome self in the cargo hold. He looked quite morose, and I could not help it but cart him out and sit him down in my CQ and dress him up and serve him tea. He doesn't have any pants on, which I think he would have been OK with even in life, and I rather enjoy the cheeky view.

Every day is sort of like Christmas with him around.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Help me out, here.

Your new portrait looks just like some popular anime character, but I can't quite remember which one. In any case, pretty hot.

Not really understanding this as mods are added and taken away all the time and there are already 'named' mods in the meta 1-4 levels (which I know are being slowly phased out) but it shouldnt be difficult to add new mods to the currently existing faction groupings.

Or have I got this all wrong?
