I dont think EVE has to worry about SWTOR.

I just saw a TV commercial for SWTOR. The one thing I noticed is that there was no in-game footage in the ad. It was all 3D rendered trailer material. Very deceiving.

You mean like this one here. Fancy tricking us into believing that was real gameplay.

Sorry I couldn't resist. Just take them for what they are, a bit of eyecandy. Personally I've always enjoyed game trailers, it's a craft in itself.

I noticed that ad.

There are many parts of the game that look good. Yet overall it just looks so bad that it makes bioware look like they cheaped out. Despite TOR being one of the most expensive games in history to make.

Delayed to hell and back and then this. Something went badly wrong in development in my opinion.

And EVE was never really threatened by TOR in the first place. STO going FTP is a far bigger competitor.

I hate to say it but the best part of TOR is actually the space combat. It is on rails but I find it very fun to play. I am getting good at laying waste to the frigs and once I get proton torpedoes I am sure ill be able to actually destroy them. Fun! They should have done 5x the amount of content on that!

I bet if EA had not gobbled up BioWare it would have turned out far better than it did.

SWTOR is a clunky game with a ****** engine and mediocre combat mechanics.

The content is fantastic though, especially once you get off of the first couple planets.

I'd rate it a B-. It doesn't come close to replacing EVE for me, but it's a welcome distraction.

Those who cannot keep up will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Such a childish ad, still better than that other WoW ad with the annoying (maybe Goth) American woman

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

It's just WoW in space, tbh. It has better mechanics and story-based quests, which is a huge plus, but to me it's just WoW in space.

SWTOR is a major disappointment. The cinematics portrayed the game as something completely different. Until somebody else comes up with a fantastic sandbox MMO - EvE will be my only.

Looks like their TV ad is as dissapointing as their game, all it is is a collection of cut scenes from the game pasted together with a voice over and a couple of logos, pretty much like the game is just a collection of wow mechanics pasted together with a starwars skin and some neat cut scenes.

PCGamer had a live event where you could watch one of their writers playing it for 8+ hours.

Talk about hideous!

Also, its not on STEAM, so buying it requires too much effort.

I stopped looking after they invited me to the beta tests & failed to allow me to download the client, that just confirmed my belief that Bioware couldn't organise the proverbial 'drunken outing in a brewery'!

I read a while back on some SWTOR page that storyline is one of their main 'pillars'. This leads me to believe that it'll get some star wars geeks for a bit, then fall off as the story gets old.

I love all the resentment against BioWare for it turning out so bad when it was more likely EA's fault.
