Hi,
I am a trader in a region that is no trade hub. Normally I do mission running but I have some long determined buy orders running in background.
So trading is for me something I do as second pillar.

At the moment the maximum length of an order is 3 month. I don't know exactly why there is such a rule, but I think it has something to do with cleaning old stuff of people that are not around anymore.

On the other hand there are people like me who want to buy over a very long time and all the time some of my > 300 orders are running out.

I would appreciate to see the following options when creating an order:
* Auto Restock (yes/no) with value: If my buy order runs empty it gets automatically updated with a new buy volume that was inserted.
* Auto Extend (yes/no) with length: If my buy order runs out a new order is created automatically with the new period.

If CCP fears about dead orders (which update themselfs) those features could be connected with last login of user.
If I was no logged in for lets say three month, those auto extend/restock mechanism will fail.

Just reset the order 4 times a year... Doesn't seem so arduous...

Honestly, this has got to be the worst "but... effort" thread I've ever seen.

There is a thing called 0.1 isk war so no matter it's crowdy trade hub or stand alone island @ Solitude there are many traders arround who would simply overbid your buy orders and since you are not actually pay attention to that due to everything auto you simply waste your time and isk. Another thing which may be a problem for auto is you wallet doesn't deep enough to satisfy multiple buy orders if you are doing multiple stations with buy orders seeded arround the area. Even you have marging trading max trained you might be doing some fancy mods wich are expencive or either you playing PLEX buy/sale games.

I totally agree with OP and furthermore I think you should simply be able to set "intelligent" sell orders. These sell orders will never expire until every item in them sells, even if it takes twenty years, and will automatically reprice themselves 0.01 ISK lower than the cheapest sell order in the region.

... no, not really. I think OP is being completely ridiculous and that a three-month sell order is more than enough. If you can't handle refreshing your sell orders every three months, then perhaps you should stop having sell orders. Or maybe you should stop setting up sell orders in a haphazard fashion such that there is always at least one ending and instead set them up in groups so that you only have to refresh a third of your sell orders at one time and only once a month.

since when is buying things isk generation? and the market is anything but isk generation, since over 90% of transactions are between players so it injects nothing into the system and taxes take away.

when you have a few trades its not that bad, but he says 300 orders, which I have 269 I can do so that would be 1200 orders in a year, even you don't want to be dealing with that all day..or longer depending on if its set up in different places.

I have over 1,000 items for sale currently. 3 months is fine and shouldn't be changed. No one wants peoples orders from years before cluttering up the market window.

The restocking idea is bad, the benefits and rewards go to players who constantly manage their orders (buy and sell). People who want to set and forget should be disadvantaged.

There is third party software such as EVE Mentat (http://www.evementat.com/) that is very helpful for managing your orders but again it just provides an easier to manage interface, you still have to manually adjust and maintain your orders.
