Server Lag during Station Undock

Got introduced to this new concept for me last night. It seems that when you undock that the game will place your ship into space even though your own PCs transition screen loading up and you are unable to access the navigational controls (or any controls). If server lag is bad enough (as in the trade hubs) that you can actually have enough time seperation that you run out the time on the station undock invulnerability.

Needless to say it was interest too see the very first thing appear after station undock is "Capsule Ejected". I am all for a good honest kill. However, it seems that there is an "exploit"able weakness in the game design that allows players to take advantage of this server lag issue.

Good PVP were the playing field is the same for everyone makes the game fun. However, exploitable weakness in game design that allow a player to get destroyed without an ability to counter is an issue. I really believe CCP should come up with a solution to fix this problem. Also I do believe some players are fully exploiting this weakness.

Putting a boatload of bubbles on gates and stations makes the client lag and gets the kill. Also, if this was Jita, loading the grid is also a lag inducing effect.

You won't like this, but the cloak effect is also client-based, meaning the instaloki on that lowsec gate with a specially configured overview will get you because no matter how fast you are, the server makes it all "one tick per second".

But you have to realize that preventing people from playing the game is in fact a meta playstyle important to a few people who won't like the kind of lag we'll really see if this was a game people could actually play at. What good would that do? I get back my personal ISK value in ship and equipment. However, there is still an underlying problem with they core design of the game. So when it happens to the next player and the next etc... Does each person just petition and CCP throws a bandaid on the problem?

This would still allow players to exploit the lag issue.

I know what would fix the issue however the implementation do due so I think would mean a full redesign of the game. The problem is that the players ship is placed on grid before a players PC has all the information loaded.

A possible fix would be to not put the ship on grid until all information has been loaded for everything your PC needs. Then after that the PC sends a message to the server telling it the PC is ready and it would then add the players ship to space. Obviously no commands would be given during this loading perid.

Other possible more reasonable options would be increase undock invulnerability timer

Get a new PC

if your PC can't load the grid in 1 minute, how the hell does it even run EVE ?

what's the specs of your pc ?

does sound like GPU not being able to handle what's going on. having said that, we all get lag spikes from time to time.
is there anyone who hasn't lost a ship to lag ?

I fail to see how CCP is responsible for this.

Not CCP's fault you are mailing in your packets via carrier pigeon while playing on a typewriter.

You just reminded me of those "by mail RPG games" of the early 80s.

Will be 60 FPS most of the time, have a little lag just before TiDi kicks in but a lot of smart bombs or bubbles and my client gives up.

You mean when I say "if the game lags your computer sucks" I'm right?? Geez. I was just trying to be a smart@$$!

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Ever seen 128 and even 64KB graphics demonstrations?

does not work this way.

Some time ago i used to hunt Caldary/Amarr militians in their high-sec.

Experienced lags of kind: when catching Tayra in my Jaguar was not able to lock it after entering the system (Tayra goes to warp faster that frigate can lock it???). Petitioned. Got response: client lag made it so i started to target that ship couple seconds after it decloaked and started warping. My story: entered, waited for Tayra decloaks, started approach and target, 1-2 seconds and Tayra warps.

Bad luck, try better next time, etc....

A. Don't go to Jita in the weekends
B. Don't go to Jita during the week.
C. Apply A and B for the other trade hubs too, seriously, remote buy and courier out...simple and quick,

But most importantly:

Buy a freaking new computer, that old fart out of the early 90's has had its time, put it to rest. If you PC seriously has issues loading grid before that 60 seconds timer runs out, it might be time to upgrade.

This. My PC is starting to show its age (can't run a lot of the "new" games because of its graphics card), but I have no trouble running two EVE clients on maximum settings. There's slowdown at the trade hubs for sure, but I've never not loaded grid in 60 seconds even at peak Jita times.
