That's an amazing career.

- buy out charismatic succesful studio with a nice franchise
- "EA" it so the next title in the franchise follows the tradition of solid EA disasters
- fire everyone involved in doing what you told them

Just as CCP, but in a much larger scale. P

Why would they? The public keep on propping them up by buying shitware like Sims 4, until it becomes unrpoftitble, and then EA can pull the plug, safe in the knowledge that they own the IP. What makes me laugh is that people believe that EA's corporate culture won't cause titles become shadows of their former installments as the accountants notice that the profit margins are slowly decreasing. The good news is that EA will eventually die. The current model of tipple AAA funding means that a point will be reached when a string of flops will sink a publisher.

Don't hold your breath.

EA will continue to exist for a good while yet, because of the millions of uninformed, pre-ordering, dlc'ing scrubs.

EA just ganked mah childhood memories /sniff

It's ok, I didn't want those precious memories anyway, I find watching EA destroy all that is good and pure relaxing.

There once was a ganker named tisi

A stunningly beautiful missy

To gank a gross miner

There is nothing finer, cept when they get all pissy

EA has such a long history of destroying everything they touch that you wonder why anyone would sell out to them anymore? Also, how can EA possibly still be in business? There must be a lot of people out there who love buying their sports games every year?

EA-- A fine example of Mr. Gingerbreads who thought they could fool everybody all of the time. They join a long list of compadres who run run run, as fast as they can. But a fox or alligator is waiting at the end. Some quick examples: Detroit auto industry; AOL; Blockbuster Video. Dell Computers-- upcoming.

Battlefield probably.

I'd guess their big money comes from the console games, Madden in particular.

EA is evil incarnated.

This Interview really explains the modus operandi of EA.

"Spector's games (Ultima VII Part 2: Serpent Isle, Ultima Underworld, System Shock and many more) consistently brought returns a small studio would think quite respectable. But the economics of a billion-dollar corporation are different. For EA it makes more sense to reach for the sky with every single project. The games that die or get cancelled become tax writeoffs, and the rare hit pays for all the rest. The worst case is the mere modest success, a mediocre return on equity without corresponding tax advantages."

"A New York Times article on EA (August 8, 2005), "Relying on Video Game Sequels," observes, "Electronic Arts plans to release 26 new games [in 2005], all but one of them a sequel, including the 16th version of NHL Hockey, the 11th of the racing game Need for Speed and the 13th of the PGA Tour golf game." In the article CEO Probst said sequels appeal to Wall Street investors because they have a steady following among consumers."

Well EA did one good thing when they closed westwood...

They made me come to eve. So for that, thanks EA, CCP has prolly enjoyed my 3-5k over the last 11 years. (drop in the bucket i know, but still)

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

And most of the guys that made Westwood what it was before EA now work at Grey Box. Let's hope we get a Sim City 5 in play but not in name, minus the on-line "requirement".

P.S. Dreadnought is looking like it wants to be just the fleet battle part of Eve.

Are you super young or am I old?
My childhood games were things like this old gem. (You can download and probably run it from there)

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
