What will happen when this universe ends?

The universe of New Eden as we know it is encapsulated within the server(s?) that CCP calls Tranquility. The infrastructure of this system is located, physically, somewhere in London (reference). When EvE no longer becomes financially viable the project will be cut loose. What will happen to New Eden at this point? Will the infrastructure be re-purposed - New Eden's thousands of star systems imploded beneath the weight of a cataclysmic system format? Or will the last handful of Capsuleers float for the remainder of their days through a Tranquility entombed, forgotten, but left functional? What happens when an MMO dies? Has an MMO ever really 'died'?

Tranquility will gain conciousness and become The Machine from PoI.

Depends if players want to try to reverse engineer the server side and manage to spoof the routing of the client.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Alcohol consumption and creation of rap videos in Iceland will be greatly reduced.

The community is so tight-knit you may see a spiritual successor take the reigns for as long as online multiplayer gaming exists in it's current form.

This.

Never played another MMO and probably never will.

Do love OPs post though. Hauntingly well written.

I believe the Icelandic government will prop up CCP through various measures for at least 5 years after Eve is no longer profitable.

What happens is we will log in and connect to little telepresence robots that wander around the CCP offices and we can shoot little pickles at the devs while they build a vampire game or something.

This universe can never end, cause the Four Horsemen would get ganked the second they appeared, and Satan isn't evil enough to ever unseat the Mittani from his throne.
