Mass test on Singularity on Thursday, 5th March, at 17:00 EVE-time

Hi!
We are planning a mass test on Singularity on Thursday, March 5th, at 17:00 UTC (= EVE time).

What exactly is being tested?
  • Download on Demand
  • New bracket icons


How to connect to Singularity for this test:

Test steps:
Probably similar to:

  1. Meet in FD-MLJ, at the gate to X-BV98
  2. Jump to X-BV98
  3. Warp to POS beacon
  4. Shoot the control tower
  5. Align to Poitot gate
  6. Fleet 1: Jump to Poitot and setup gate camp
  7. Fleet 2: Jump to Poitot + fight at the gate
  8. Optional: NPCs?


What else should I know?
  • We will be moving players to the test system - join the channel massmoveme
  • 2M Skill points will be awarded on Singularity for this mass test
  • Bring many different ships.


Special instructions for Download on Demand on Windows
For testing the "worst case scenario" we would like to ask you to clear your resource cache to force the client to really use Download on Demand as much as possible. To do so follow these instructions:

  1. First, select the settings cog in the right upper corner of the launcher (see this screenshot).
  2. Once in the settings window, select the “Download” tab, note the “Shared cache location”, and make sure that “Download all the resource files” box is not selected. (see this screenshot)
  3. Go to the shared cache location (see this screenshot).
  4. You now have two choices:
    5. * Delete the SharedCache folder.
    * Rename it (if you want to switch back to the full cache after the mass test).
    ** For the purpose of the mass-test, either option is fine. It is more a matter of your preferences, and how much you are willing to redownload.
  5. Restart the launcher, which will download again the base set (~500MB)


We will also have extra questions for the survey at the end of the mass test:
  • What is the maximum download speed of your internet connection?
  • Which internet connection type are you using? (Wired / Wireless)
  • What is the size of the SharedCache folder at the end of the mass-test?


For our Mac users:

We made a change in the launcher, so that it downloads all the needed resources before being able to play. While this is unfortunate, we have had to take this step until we resolve crash issues in the client. We continue to work on a fix. Please do not try to delete your resource cache - the launcher would download everything again.

Where did you find this ancient installer?
But on this topic: The installer for EVE is currently completely rewritten for these changes and the new version is not available yet.

I got a problem. I'm delete all in cache folder and launcher stuck at "DOWNLOADING UPDATES TO RES CACHE (38.63 MB/531.86 MB) 65.8%" .
Launcher ver - 2.2.866962

Before deleting folder all works fine.
What can i do with that?

So we can't do anything until the new launcher / installer is available.. when will that be?
NVM I switched to Singularity and it automatically installed the new launcher

Ah, this is from the old Dev Blog.

For the moment it is best to just copy the existing TQ client and do not try to install a new client through the installer.

You can enter it already now, but if you play a lot before the mass test (after clearing the resources cache), then you will download already parts of the resources.

When was the last mirror made for the server?

*edit - never mind - found it on the forums....there is no delete post button?*

My Steam account made the last mirror but it always gives me issues when going back to regular server - as in I usually have to reinstall the entire game...maybe that is part of the issues you're having on Mac clients?

have same problem , it displays 50% as 100% and running 100% even for 10 hours DID NOT HELP. launcher is stucking
at random stage of download. how we will participate in masstest when launcher is broken and unusable

Same thing. And i also can't start game client. "Play" in launcher button is just grey and exefile gets some exception.

If you restart the client it will look at the cache and see if its missing some and attempt to download the rest but just hangs at 0%. Craziness!!!Ugh

as you might get problem we will we extend "2M Skill points will be awarded on Singularity for this mass test" to 4M , just reply here.

can you please ensure that those attempting to join and are spending an eternity while the cache rebuilds receive the mass test skill points too? as we are participating in the mass test even though the client will not get into the game proper.?

I was having the same problem, but then i saw the problems Mac users might have. Altough i am running windows, I saw that Mac users shouldn't delete the SharedCache, but i already did, figured it might have something to do with that. So, i clicked the cogwheel again, went to download>browse, and it was there agian, and i could start the game.
might want to try that?

Yeah I am just going back to using my full shared cache and getting on the server.
