So I have had an idea floating around in my head for an eventual jump into pvp. The idea being remaining cloaked in a system until an enemy shows up, decloaking and unleashing a bunch of damage before they can respond. Is this possible? I've read about stealth bombers, but that does not seem to work against frigs and they operate predominately in fleets, but is there a awy to do this against frigs and solo?

FYI, if you want to try this with a T1 ship, just know that targeting will be a problem so you'll have to hope the target is slow to notice you or slow to warp away. You could hang around somewhere cloaked, maybe with probes out to find targets, and decloak before warping in on your target. The warp will take up the time of your targeting delay after decloak, and you just have to hope they don't notice you before you arrive on the grid and tackle them.

Well you can have lots of success attacking exploration ships with a sb. Just fit rockets/guns instead of torps in the highs. Then scan out the sites in your system, bm them, and then wait for folk to go hacking. As for combat frigs, well your target would have to be fairly unaware to get caught. I would suggest an astero as an sb lacks the tank to go toe to toe with a frig. You want to try to bump your target before you uncloak, which might give you enough time to get lock despite the uncloak delay.

For a newer player, as you skill up for covops, an Astero can take care of most frig explorers.

If you are going to fly a SB consider bombs. While your torps can't hit a frigate a bomb will ruin a frigate's day if they aren't on the ball. (This works best on a frigate who is doing the hacking mini-game, idling at a gate, and obvious requires being in WH or NS.) Of course bombing is a bit of an art and novice bombers often blow themselves up.

That said note that you aren't undetectable in a cloaked ship. Any where outside wormhole space you show up in local. Most targets you can kill in a bomber will safe up or dock, and bombers have difficulty with virtually any PVP ship. You can hunt soft targets like indys on gates and PI haulers on custom offices as torps hit most indys pretty well.

In general a cloaky ship is a poor combat ship short of investing in a tech 3 cruiser or faction ship, and such ships are extremely pricey. I advise learning to pvp in a frigate 1st before attempting to pvp in anything else. You can lose a lot of frigates for the price of one stealth bomber. Also look at joining a newbie friendly pvp sooner rather than later. Other wise your expensive cloaky ship is just going to pad someone's killboard.

This. However, BLOPs BS are not really that good for solo, or at least those starting in cloaky solo. They're great for small gang shenanigans.

Another possible play style that you might like which has been mentioned here but I'll go into it in a little more detail is wormhole living. First off it is somewhat important to note that there is a way to combine your directional scanner with your combat probe use in such a way as to combat probe people down with your probes being with in D scan range of them for such a short amount of time that it is very difficult for them to see you coming. If you combine that with not showing up in local and having a cloaky scanning ship you can do some very effective hunting.

So if you join a corp that lives in a wormhole what your typical day will be like is logging on and scanning your system to see what has spawned. Then you will often jump through to connecting systems and check them out to see who your neighbors for the day are. Then you will explore their system to see who they are if they are active what timezone that they operate in etc... If you find some of them out and running sites you can get into a position so that you can give your corpmates a warp to while you are cloaked watching them. If they are sitting in their PoSs you can maybe run back to your wormhole and get a bait ship and start running their sites.

I could go on with examples but I just wanted to give you a basic idea of what wormhole life is like and that if you are into the cloaky hunting and combat probing style of game play that wormhole life might be for you.

Also note that medium ships don't take all that long to train up for. With the type of play style you are looking for, you could get into tech 2 and tech 3 cruisers in not all that long. This opens a lot of options to you in a fairly short amount of time. I believe that you can fit T3's to use both a covert ops cloak and a probe scanning bonus maybe even a bubble free subsystem as well. I know that they can do all 3 of those things I'm just not 100% that you can fit all 3 at once.

Anyway just giving you some ideas of directions you can look into.

Though expect to spend a lot of time just waiting ... I would also recommend to join the Bombers Bar and Spectre Fleet channels to get in touch with dedicated bomber pilots and their regular black ops hot drop NPSI fleets. Bombers are capable of solo hunting but are best in group action, imo.
