With the new SOV changes, there will be no more structures shooting in order to capture them - there goes the last useful role of the titans ?

When was the last time you used your titan as DPS to kill a structure.

I reckon the best way to stop a small group trying to take your space will be to sit on the target structure in a titan with an entosis link running.

Please don't talk about stuff you know nothing about. I've never flown with a sov war fleet and even I know Titans are never used for structure grinds Roll

It's supers and dreads that will become useless in the new sov system, especially supers.

Titans are supercapitals.

There will still be fleets of supercap vs. supercap since the only way to really take someone's space is to clear them off the battlefield. What this is really going to do is force more fights and prevent people from running away as soon as the enemy logs in to defend their stuff.

What's different in the new system is that when a small alliance fights another small alliance for space, the same dynamics can occur without big fleets or even big ships coming into it. You'll still have to match your enemy's best with your own best, but presumably you won't have to match your best with the best in the game, not every time in every system.

Also you can't just drop 50 Titans and 100 Supers and call it a day. If you drop just Caps they can drop frigs instead to counter, Asymmetric warfare. Since the frigs are cheap enough to afford a few losses. And very hard for the Caps to kill.
So even if they do come by with titans and you have none, you have a way to defend your space now. And if they drop subcaps to engage yours, then you only have to fight the subcaps.

So Caps still have plenty of use in fleet combat, same place they always did, but they are no longer the 'win' button. Instead they fit into the Asymmetric warfare meta of EVE where a frigate is meant to be capable in a fleet fight, just different.

That seems like a really really good use of all the heaps of supercaps Eve has by now... we'll just build stations out of them and hide the hills inside them.

Hmmm all those freeports you'll create for the players before you implode.

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Look on the bright side, covops need much fewer sp, so you can train them up right away. Afk spam is the new ehp grind - you have to afk camp a system to get indices low enough to take sov. Expect to get called to "afk camping duty" soon. And there's no excuse to not be there, because all you have to do is... nothing.Lol

Yeah because titans are sooooo dangerous against a fleet of subcaps - or even against ONE subcap for that matter.Having a red titan in your area would hardly intimidate anyone.
The only super/caps that can do anything to SOME OF THE ( badly fitted ) subcaps are the carriers. And their end is near also ( see the new fighter changes ).
Therefor, I will have to bring titans to clear my area from... what ? the fleet of carriers that will jump me when I am ratting ?

Genuine question, as I haven't followed this too closely, but which are you suggesting here;

1 - Being in an opponent's system passively decreases their indices?

or

2 - People are still so scared of an afk cloaker that they won't undock, use their space, and thusly their indices will fall?

Because if you're saying 1 then yeah, ccp need to look at that, but if you're saying 2, then it seems like it's working as intended. Can't be all comfy and safe just because of +1 in local forever.

afk camp for sov, didnt ccp tweaked that in FW plex which makes it impossible to capture now cloaked afk. they should have learned by now i guess Lol

Err did you even read about the sov changes proposed? AFK is going to get you exactly *nothing*. Dwell time in the system means nothing. Killing rats and mining does.

You missed the point:

AFK camping will keep the other guys from doing any NPC killing or mining, lowering their defense bonus.
