Let's say hypothetically if 2 AM me consumed Marijuana and forgot to route the extracted product to storage, is there anyway to recover those products or did I just waste 10 hours of extraction time + brain cells?

Any extracted products not routed (or routed to a full storage) are lost entirely.

And we've probably all done this at least once.

yep, you ******.

could be worse, you could do what i regularly do and forget to hit the "submit" button on your extraction planet that already tends to fall behind all the others for extraction purposes...

Lost. Your little worker bees pushed the stuff out the airlock.

Don't panic, every person doing PI does this from time to time. One visual clue that you've routed stuff is the pulsing of the link.

My common mistake is to stop an extractor, move the heads around, then hit submit without having first hit 'install'.
