Is it possible to create or join an alliance while being an ally in a war?

https://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/with-friends-like-these...-new-ally-system/

I found the above article indicating you can, but my friend got told by a member of support its not possible. Which is it? cuz im stuck in a war where the aggressor wants to continue their war to stop us creating or joining an alliance, so we're stuck... surely this is an exploit!?

just hire mercs to counter dec them and hire mercs to assist your war?

but that means waiting out the wardecs and hopefully getting some decent kills

Believe CCP changed that system (and support is right, you can't create alliances while under war - to prevent another Dec Shield from happening).

p.s. Just cause something is happening not to your liking doesn't mean it is an exploit.

LEARN the difference please, they are mearly using a game mechanic against you.

Maybe you could enlighten us.

Upon looking up the definition of exploit it seems it means to make use of or derive benefit from. I think people often use exploit with a negative connotation so people get a knee-jerk reaction to the word and start attaching goodness or badness to it's use when to my understanding it is not part of the definition.

I think the context from which we are getting confused is if there is a game mechanic that brings about a result unintended and undesired by the game designers and someone make use of that game mechanic or somehow derives benefit from it and someone else refers to them exploiting the mechanic. The "illegal" part of that action is in deriving benefit from something that you could be expected to reasonably understand to be unintended and instead of bringing it to the attention of the devs you sneak around and make use of it to your own benefit hoping no one finds out. So in that case the badness is not from the exploit it's self but in the knowing that you are not supposed to be doing what you are doing and still doing it anyway.

It is an exploit, only once CCP classes it as an exploit. Before that, at best it can be an unintended feature (which needs fixing and/or clarification about the status).

But IMO in this case it is neither.

CCP made a mechanic to prevent people from joining an alliance while undsr war.
CCP also made a mechanic so that 2 corps can go to war for how long the aggressor wants to pay for it.

These guys are just combining the 2 features together. There are many reasons why you can be wardecced, "psychological" warfare is just one of them. Nowhere in the rules as they are now does it state that deccing someone for 'x' weeks to prevent them from joining an alliance is against any rule or is considered an exploit of the wardec mechanic.

1. CCP does not allow the use of creating/joining alliances to avoid wardecs (which is what you seem to want to do)
2. You cant join Alliance and need to sort out the wardec first. Pay off the offending corp, hire mercs to do it for you, or do it yourself.

Working as intended. If you want to avoid a wardec there is an existing way in place. Join NPC corp. This is obviously not the ideal answer, but if you want to benefit from avoiding the wardec, then there should be a price you pay (increased taxes and not being in your corp).
