Thank you kindly for all the kind words and nominations. I would like to second nominations for Bahamut420 and sasawong, they are both fine stalwart pilots, dedicated to the cause and the warzone would be a bleak place without both of their efforts for the cause.

As for Wolfsbrigade. Judge them kindly, they have been unable to effectively do anything useful on their own for some time so splitting hairs must seem a worthwhile diversion for them.

Seems kind of unfair, what do you have against the amarr. I mean damn, what did we ever do to you.

If you weren't simply a bunch of Caldari mercenaries who abandoned their homefront to the Federation, with no history to the Amarr/Matari war, you'd probably know that answer.

Agreed. Whoever wins deserves it, the list is an excellent one.

Though my allegiance is to Ava, I'm just happy that Tribal Liberation Force has so many people worth this vote. Thank you, Silence, for hosting this. None of these people don't deserve the recognition that their candidacy alone has offered them.

Here's to Freedom Fighter of The year 114.

Typically people do things like this to throw themselves a party. It's very hard to be perfectly altruistic and there's a number of factors to keep in mind here:

  • Silence can not allow someone who isn't already popular to win, regardless of their dedication to the Republic.
  • The sheer cost of the prize may demand some personal trust that it will go to good use.
  • Silence will inevitably direct the success of this event into himself, he must maintain some level of control like rejecting Arbane (for obvious reasons) and he would benefit from manipulating the final result, emotionally. That's not to say he has or will, it's just a matter of fact.
  • This is a contest of vanity, required by the fact that this recognition takes place after other events. The motive would be completely different if the contest was started before the year took place with the conditions for winning outlined then. It's hard to be compassionate without being spontaneous, though, and I don't feel that this being held ex post facto makes it any less genuine.
  • This being a contest of vanity, mostly present qualities will be judged.

Regardless, Silence hasn't shown me any sign that he's been corrupted by the whole being human thing, but there is a lot riding on this for the integrity of all of us. I want Ava to win but I'm comfortable with any of the candidates winning.

I would like to politely withdraw from the running, and ask that any votes for me be ignored. I have been the target of harassing emails and coms transmissions regarding this contest, and quite simply, of all the asenine, dumb, distracting **** to be crappy to me about, some damn vanity/popularity contest tops the list. Like... this email.

To: Ava Starfire,

So I dont suppose your condoning the faggoty proxy's being used to get you votes.

This is one of several such emails I have recieved, in addition to being the target of some trashtalking across various coms networks.

I voted ONCE, for Anya Sulii, for what it's worth.

I hope you all enjoy your prizes. You deserve them.

That's pretty sad, Ava. I am sorry you have to deal with such.

Public, anonymous voting is easily abused. That both means that it is abusable, but also that it's easy to accuse others of abuse. That sadly does not help anyone, and as is obvious from the above, will even harm those who this is supposed to help.

I hope that the initiators of this contest will take it as an opportunity to improve the contest's rules, and not as a reason to abandon the idea. I think it has quite a bit of merit.

I'm saddened that the participants and witnesses saw fit to trash one of the top candidates for this award -- if anyone deserved to win, it's Ava Starfire.

What's the matter, guys? Can't stand a fair competition?

I've been keeping an eye on this for a little while now, as it would have been rude to not be able to wish anyone I know a prompt congratulations if they had won. However I never actually "cast a vote" as I have reservations about the very notion of a purely democratic system, but that is neither here nor there.

What is here however is that it seems somehow appropriate or acceptable to harass and pester people in the process of this voting. Now, I admit I am by no means on expert in this sort of thing...but to use an example, aren't there laws and regulations in the Federation prohibiting the harassment of people with the intent to change votes? Seems to me if you're going to invite everyone to have a say, you might as well make an effort to at least stipulate that others shouldn't resort to what amounts to tampering or voter fraud.

Seeing as the person I would cast my vote for has withdrawn, I believe the appropriate thing for me to do is to officially abstain....or is it "spoil" my ballot?

Interesting to see this Matari "award" plagued by a flawed voting system full of proxy voters, harassment of nominees, and general chaos.

Very fitting.

I'll contrast that with PIE's extremely orderly nominating process and awards for the last several years.

The "Freedom Fighter of the Year Award" shows that as with most things, Amarrians did it first, and better.
