Expandable/Collapsible Vertical Overview Tabs

So one of the most annoying features about Eve Online for me is the overview and it always takes me a good hour or two to set them up every time I reinstall eve on a new computer. Even though many corps have pre-made ones, I often still like to tinker them further to my own preferences. I also find the import function to be quite buggy for and unreliable. But even after taking the time to set up the "perfect" overview, I still find the interface quite clunky.

So perhaps this has been suggested before but I think vertical overview tabs (in conjunction with the current horizontal tabs) would help out a lot. A rough MS Paint edit I made demonstrates a rough picture of my idea:

Overview Idea Example 1

So as you can see, the gist of my idea is simply to have vertically expandable tabs which can expand and collapse information quickly, without losing sight of information that's already expanded. These vertical tabs would of course be customizable, so for example if you wanted both ships and wrecks to be organised by distance under the same tab, you could choose to filter both ships and wrecks in that tab:

Overview Idea Example 2

Which would of course be useful in PvP scenarios where I was looking for a warp in against a sniper or making sure I wasn't near any wrecks as a sniper.

Currently if I set up a drone only tab and a ship only tab; switching to the drone tab would cause me to lose ships on my overview. With vertical tabs I could expand or close the drone tab without losing sight of the ships on my overview. This is particularly useful as an FC where you can have one tab for friendly ships and one tab for hostile ships. You can quickly expand the friendly ships tab to get an idea of how your numbers are holding up without losing sight on information about the enemy fleet/gang.

Please let me know what you guys think and if you have any further ideas about how this should or shouldn't work.

EDIT: And before you start to criticize the overview in the example, it's simply an edit of a google image screenshot since I'm on a laptop without Eve installed to take my own screenshot of my own overview.

I actually really like that idea!

Completely agree with the whole switching to a drone tab and losing all ships etc thing, really annoying.

Also i was playing last night thinking "wish the stations werent there" but i didnt want to have to permenantly remove the stations from that overview tab and re-add them later.

Having an option to just minimize the stations like that would have de-cluttered my overview much easier.

You do realize you can export your overview settings, store them either on a cloud server or on a USB drive, then import them every time you reinstall, right?

As to your suggestion about the overview, I'm going to say no. You can already ultra customize your overview settings into all sorts of combinations using the pre-existing tabs system.

I actually really like this idea, saves having to take your eyes off what ships are ongrid to kill pesty drones.

Can't argue against. It's why I utilize the color backgrounds for the "name tapes" like I do; to help visually show when certain entities are now present or no longer present, like "Someone's drones are out," "I've left/entered grid," "Rats have spawned," etc.

Not to highjack, but can we also finally get a way to show wrecks based on ship size for Pet's sake, we've have full/empty wrecks seperate for ever but still no way to show only large wrecks without medium or small wrecks. Pliss...

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

+1 simply for having done the mock up UI's to actually show what you wanted.

Like the idea But im not sure i like the foldering system your sujesting it would add clutter no i would love it if for every tom you hade filtering options at the top

Tab1|Tab2|Tab3|Tab4|Tab5
F1|F2|F3|F4
|-------------------------------------|
Stuffz
And
**** (lol they have a profanity filter Sh!t)

and these could be programed for example setting F1 to exclude fleet members but being able to trigger it in split sec to be able to see your fleet.

Not knocking the idea since i play the game through the overview id love to be able to customise it more :D

Another use for this is for travel tabs. Currently I have a tab with stations and gates, being able to take collapse stations from my grid for example can really help to de-clutter my overview in some systems.
