So with games like star citizen and no mans sky where you can seamlessly land on planets and hopefully interact with them, I was wondering if CCP has any plans for the future of PI for Eve? For example beeing able to land on an instanced plot of land on a planet where you have a base (bought on the market) and can actually Watch your planetary colony beeing built in 3d. Something like the walk in stations feature, just a bit more evolved.

Since the engine obviously can handle walking on stations... why not? Would give a whole new dimention to PI and would be perfect for carebears Roll

So does anyone know if there are plans on further developing PI?

Nope.

Eve ships are constructed from materials that are incredibly unstable in atmospheric(i.e not vacuum) conditions.

Well then add new ships to the game that only work between stations and planets, having an automatic deorbit/orbit option, click the deorbit button, choose a planetary destination and the ship automaticaly lands on a plot of land on the given planet.

If you're lucky, PI changes will come within the scope of sovereignty overwork. Other than that, get in the line.

When suggesting this sort of thing, ask yourself 'What functional gameplay will this introduce'

For example, changing PI to be on a per 'district' basis and then presenting the player with several slot based maps they can select which building goes into which slot on, based on size.
This then leads onto each map becoming a real Dust map if any battles are fought in that area, because it matches the way Dust generates it's maps, increasing the links between EVE & Dust.
As well as opening up options for raids or control fights since things are owned per district, rather than open for all on the same planet.

But if it just adds pretty with no gameplay values like your current suggestion, it won't happen.
Even PBR is all about enabling SKINS, which is a form of gameplay due to the market for them, as well as database simplification for all the current skin versions.

What's "seamlessly"? Is that like a jumpgate? I think SWTOR is what you're after. It has all that stuff in it.

EDIT: Wait. Wait. "Skins is a form of game play...."? Huh? Uh. NVM.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

The only changes I care about for PI would be making it less of a click fest. All the routing is so annoying I don't even feel like setting up new planets.

Oh and it would be nice if planets got a graphical update. They are looking a bit dated.

Lets see, you have two games that are not even games yet, that have concepts of what might happen.

I'd rather eve be eve and add things hat they can do that will happen. I firmly believe SC is vaporware. Or will bomb. no mans sky.. meh.

CCP had a concept of atmospheric flight in 04, but they could not technically do it from what i remember. This could be worked around with valk and legion, but i'm just going to enjoy eve and have my popcorn ready for the mountain of tears that comes when SC bombs.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

What I got from the OP's post:

"I saw these other tech-demos that I hope will eventually have meaningful gameplay elements. Does CCP plan to make the same mistake they made with WiS by introducing another tech demo without gameplay?"

Let's hope not. :)

You should had seen how it was when PI got introduced first. Now that was a click fest to behold.
Maybe I can find an old tut about it...

Edit,

Old tutorial should say enough...

I'd like to see an Alpha Centauri like mini game to EVE planets.

Not counting on it though.

Sometimes I wonder if game developers hire people just to visit the forums of perceived competitors just for the sake of overhyping their as yet unreleased games.

It only has to be suggested in the forums and at least one or two fanbois will take up the standard and lead the charge.

This is a WONDERFUL idea. A planet base. that you can put labs, rprocessors, compressors, hangers, and what not pos shizzle in. You can have a plot where you can mine a mine, and another plot where you can gather moon goodies, wait! there's more, you can find wild, and exotic pets that you can capture, and battle other players with. CCP can call it a "Garrison" or something along those lines. Twisted

The next chapter was supposed to be DUST. Instead it was used to have an effect on something not many people care about beyond farming LP semi-afk in disposable ships.
