New New Player Experience.

Trial, so can't comment in the official thread.

I was never a fan of the "board your ship in space" tutorial.

However, the new one leaves a TON to be desired.

In the "kill a rat" opportunity, it should have them show info on the gun to see range.

It starts them with 5K ISK. Then it tells them to buy "something" from the market. Maybe a hint to buy a unit of ammo or something else that is cheap. No mention of jumps, or that items don't move on their own?

Finally, it tells them to buy a skill from the market, then inject it and train it. And yet, they now have less than 5K ISK. Off singularity, they are not going to be able to get skill books for 100 ISK.



I hope this is a test of the opportunity mechanism, and NOT a test of the content. Mechanism A+++++++. Current content = D.

I cannot believe CCP went live with the new "Opportunities" in their current state. Epic fail!

It starts out okay with the 'double click, approach, orbit, shoot, loot, orbit, mine, warp, dock. fit'.

But then it goes badly off course.
Buy something? How?
undock and jump trough a gate.

Now I'm floating in space. Buy a skill and inject.
1) no ISK. How they supposed to buy a skill with less than 5K ISK?
2) It tells them to use IBIS to figure out a skill to train, without ANY clue what ships are, what they might want to fly. No clue about rewuirements tab, mastery tab. How is lookiing at IBIS going to help someone with less than 5 mins in Eve figure out what skill to buy?
3) if I dock and open market as it told me to in prior opportunity, I see jack all for skills because you had them LEAVE the rookie system that has the station with all the skills. No mention of range, nothing. Just buy a skill and inject it.
4) If I happen to get ISK, and happen to figure out market range, and happen to buy a skill, still not been taught setting destination or the yellow icon for the route in overview or how to find the book they have bought.

So, let's assume they manage to crap 20K ISK from somehere, manage to figure out how to buy a book, manage to figure out setting destination, and manage to get to where they bought the book..... They inject and..... That's all.

So, they still don't have a skill training, because all it said to do was inject.

AND, they are asked "Do you want to learn about career agents?' What if they say no? If they say yes, then what? They have not been told about setting destination, route, autopilot, takling to agents, accepting missions.....


OMG, going LIVE with this, in its current state is one of the biggest EPIC FAILS for a company known for its EPIC FAILS? Why have a feedback thread if you are not even going to listen.

I can only imagine the number of new players that are slamming their heads into the keyboard in total frustration right now.

It seems all the other tutorial popups are gone too.

SO, Let's say they manage to find their way to career agent and talk to military agent, accept. Manage to figure out info panel, wrp to encounter.

Never been taught to fit better gun, or load ammo. No mention of hard points. Sure, most players didn't get it, but atleast the tuts mentioned it. Never been taught what a shield booster is or how to use it. Never been taught weapon range, how to set orbit distance.

So, acting like a real noob that didn't know any of that, I got swarmed by 4 rats and got my rookie ship popped. Well, I really didn't, but would have if I'd not gotten random lucky that the loot from first rat killed was civilian shield booster and I randomly happened to fit it, and happened to randomly turn it on when my ship started screaming that my shields were 75% gone.....


I am beginning to wonder if the person that authorized going live with this in its current state actually WANTED all new players to quit in frustration in the first hour of playing.


The old tut had about 10% of what a player really needed to survive their first few days. The new opportunities have less than 10% of what the old tuts had.

Words do not describe the level of insanity of going live with this in its current state.
