Seeing as we can't tracert I looked up the old ones and saw Telia......There have been times where Telia has made World of Tanks unplayable for large chunks of people because that one hop would add a huge chunk to the ping and drop ~25% of the packets. Is this the case here?

Starting two evenings ago, the waves of socket closed ramped up to ludicrous speeds for those on my watch list. Last night before Tiamat went up, some in our chat tab were getting 4-6 disconnects in less than ten minutes. Now that Tiamat is live...

oh Mai~!!!!

I've been lucky today and not nailed, but the notification chime is binging constantly from those both in the chat tabs I'm in along with other toons I've marked for one reason or another are disconnecting in giant chunks over and over. CCP, come on, at least let us know there IS a problem and it's being looked into, the silence is speaking deafening volumes by now. That tends to develop irritation, irate feelings, and hostility down here on the player level.

Ignoring a problem many are having will not make it go away, and a simple, hey we're working on it, buys you some comforted players who are paying to play a game that keeps us amused and you employed. So consider an acknowledgement of our issue, it might calm some upset.

I have daily socket-closed errors. It really makes the game unplayable to me and as such, I am seriously considering unsubbing my 3 accounts.

I've reported it but CCP insists it's my ISP. I checked my packet losses and it shouldn't be on my end. This is the only game that I have this problem with. I'm with one of the fastest ISP's in Europe. I am not the only one with this problem and CCP refuses to look into it, so I have no choice but to stop playing. I don't want to, but I see no other option. I'm not paying for a broken game.

Unplayable at the moment, as I'm being kicked off every 2-3 minutes.

Just checked for any alerts relating to server issues and there are none. There also does not seem to be any large scale player drops which is usually an indication of a server issue.

Speaking generally about Socket Closed issues I genuinely know how frustrating losing connection is. But if there's no indication of any server problems or problems on our network then there's not much we can do.

Coincidental with Tiamat. I have just had major socket closed issues start. I followed the guide and found a problem at line 1 : I cannot ping the server without 100% packet loss; so did not even get as far as testing the ports.

Ok, so I have some questions for my ISP later on today, but I can still log into the game for a short period and seem to get responses from it (market checks, market interaction, mails), how is this possible with 100% packet loss to the server? I used pingplotter and this is what I get:

Target Name: srv200-g.ccp.cc
IP: 87.237.38.200
Date/Time: 19/02/2015 05:56:23

1 0 ms [my IP address]
2 19 ms [213.1.112.96]
3 20 ms [213.1.115.142]
4 22 ms [213.1.79.54]
5 24 ms [87.237.20.140]
6 * [-]
etc
35 * [-]

Destination not reached in 35 hops

I do it to google and its ~23ms average and successful. I get the impression I get close to the game server (1 hop?), so is this still likely to be an ISP issue? If I can get any additional questions to tackle them with, I would be grateful.

My solution for socket closed errors!

I recently upgraded my XFinity modem to the new fancy thing they have out, which also happens to be a wireless router. I was content with my own wireless router, so I just disabled their wireless signal and hooked up my home network, plugged the new modem into my existing router, and things appeared to work ok.

Then I started getting socket closed a lot on Eve - but it was sporadic... sometimes 1 client would get it, sometimes multiple clients would get it across multiple machines. But netflix was working on my PS3, and wireless connectivity was ok. Eve was semi-playable at times, other times it would socket close 2-3 times a day.

I did some fiddling with the layout of which machines were plugged in where, and managed to randomly get different clients to get the socket closed - sometimes it would go away, sometimes I couldn't even browse the internet!

I got frustrated and did what any customer ought to do - I called xfinity's tech support and explained the whole situation and my setup to the nice man who gets paid to know more about networking than I do.

The solution to the problem *I* had caused, was right there in front of our faces as soon as I mentioned it.... I had two routers on one network fighting with each other! I had forgotten that the new modem was also a router.

I've not had a single socket closed error since that day.

TL;DR: Do *not* use a 2nd router with a cable/whatever modem that also acts as a router.

(*EDIT* ...unless you disable the routing ability and turn one of them into just a switch that is.)

Hope that helps someone :)

Well, for some reason I can never ping the game server on the address above, but last night played through with zero socket closed / dc's. I really don't get it. Is the server being suggested to ping correct? Is there some other voodoo on my machine that is hyper-spacing a server connection? Is this the real life, or is it just fantasy .... ?

Reading between the lines of what GMArcade is saying and this overall difficulty/impossibility of getting a solid ping trace, seems there's a spot on the route to CCP's game client server that's having some serious occasional dying issues. Wonderful, wonder which company owns the mostly dead spot on the route that's dropping so many into Socket Closed in waves that come and go.

Well I know it's not in my local route out of TX, or at the CCP end according to GMArcade. That only leaves.... ummm... how many flavor combinations in the bag of interwebs Skittles are there again? Shocked

He didn't say there was no issue, he said there was no indication of server issues or network issues *on their end*. CCP supports their network and servers, not everyone else's. You've got to work it out on your end with your home network and/or ISP.

I don't know your personal setup or experience, but I'd start with just one computer directly hooked up to your modem/whatever, with no other routers or devices on the network. If you still get socket closed issues, it is either a problem with that modem, or on your ISP's network. If it clears up with just one hooked up, then your home network was the issue.

I contacted my ISP again. They actually tested the connection to EVE online themselves. Although they didn't have any issues, they did get other complaints about the same issue from other regions. What I and the others have in common is that we're in densely populated area's. And although I'm on a pretty good 160mbps connection, the package policy of EVE is so strict that I'm getting kicked off all the time. This is the only game/program that has issues like this, so don't tell me the issue is on my end.

So yeah, long story short: CCP's netcode sucks, and I won't continue to invest any more into this broken game. I sincerely hope this will be fixed one day, but by then I will no longer be a customer.
