Does invention allow you to create unique bpc?

It doesn't seem that you can target attributes.

From my understanding, invention doesn't seem to allow one person to make a ship go faster while another person make the armor stronger.

It seems that all you do is create a generic improved bpc from the original.

No it just lets you create Tech 2 BPCs from Tech 1 BPCs
