"This week in EVE" is a weekly overview of EVE Online related news and events and shows what is going on in EVE Online. The focus of this overview is on official news from CCP: For example, dev blogs and important forum posts by CCP developers, the ever evolving background story and upcoming events.
The previous weekly overview can be found here.
The next weekly overview can be found here.

The current "This week in EVE" gives on overview of the week from February 7th to 13th

Dev blogs and official news
Corp Little Things & Friendly Fire Control - Feedback
CCP Punkturis introduces a first set of improvements made to the management of corporations. Those improvements will especially help CEO's and directors to manage their corporations better and more efficiently. Introduced will be also a "Friendly Fire" toggle which allows player corporations to choose (with a cool down of 24 hours) if friendly fire within the corporation stays legal as it is now or if it should become illegal so that CONCORD will take action. Also read CCP Masterplan's explanation on Friendly Fire and Factional Warfare and check out additional information from CCP Lebowski. Please also note that EVE isn't get "easier" by this, it just removes some unwanted consequences of current mechanics.

Fanfest 2015 Silent Auction - Servers & T-Shirts & Guns.. Oh My! - Feedback
The tradition of having a Silent Auction at Fanfest 2015 for charity continues on Fanfest 2015 with something very special: we will auction off original server blades from the Tranquility server! Those blades will be slightly modified (covered in poly-carbonate and decorated with an engraved EVE metal plate), but otherwise all original. Discover which other items will be available in the auction and read CCP Falcon's blog.

Fanfest 2015 - The Quafe Vexor Has Landed
Everyone who purchased a ticket for Fanfest 2015 is eligible for three ships decorated by Quafe: Quafe Tristan, Quafe Vexor and Quafe Dominix. While the Quafe Tristan has been delivered already, we now see the Quafe Vexor getting distributed. If you have bought a Fanfest 2015 ticket, check your redeeming system!

EVE Online: Flight Academy
The EVE Online: Flight Academy is a series of focused video tutorials made by CCP Customer Support to support both existing and new players with useful information. While just recently started, we also see tutorials about NPC and player corporations, planetary interaction and the API. Visit regularly the Flight Academy on YouTube as new video tutorials are added several times a week.

EVE Probe
Make a scene with EVE Probe - good dev support!
With the latest release of EVE Probe you now can create your own scenes to playback (don't forget to share those scenes and images!), but this is not the end of the EVE Probe development. Creating more complex scenes with camera animations is on the to-do list as well as fixing existing bugs. Beyond creating beautiful images and aesthetics, EVE Probe with own scenes considerably helps discovering bugs in the graphics engine and performance bottlenecks. Get the latest EVE Probe installer and play around!

Fanfest 2015
St. Patrick's Day during Fanfest
St. Patrick's Day is during the Fanfest 2015 week and of course we can't miss this opportunity as CCP Guard points out correctly. We also have CCP Puck, who organizes the Fanfest soccer tournament, suggesting to have some nice green kits for the players in this match.

Weather in March for Fanfest? CCP Explorer knows what to expect
When asked about the weather in March in Iceland so that visitors to Fanfest can pack accordingly, CCP Explorer knows exactly what to expect: unpredictable weather! While this sounds a bit odd, it is true nonetheless. Weather in March in Iceland is especially unpredictable, so be prepared for everything.

Soccer match player vs devs - name required
The soccer match player vs developers during Fanfest 2015 is developing nicely, but now we need a name for this event. Your help is required!

Technical
Multiple EVE client installations and symbolic links
When using multiple EVE client installations, CCP FoxFour (and others) found it useful to use symbolic links. Why would you want to have separate installation directories? Because settings are stored based on client install location. So if you want things like window size, graphic settings, and such remembered differently, you can use multiple installation directories.

Issues with the graphic? Please check your graphic drivers first
If you experience issues with your graphics, please first make sure that your graphic drivers are up to date.

Test server and testing
A new mirror on Singularity
CCP Habakuk informs us that a new mirror was installed on the test server Singularity and that the free skill points you earn with participating in mass tests have been added to the characters. Note please that only participation in the five last mass tests are relevant and that you only can receive at maximum 10 million free skillpoints on Singularity (2 million skillpoints per mass test).

"Mirror" for Singularity - what does it mean?
What does it mean that the test server received a new "mirror" and which steps are involved? CCP Goliath, QA director, explains that a mirror is a copy of the TQ database that is processed in a certain way - for example sensitive information like POS location, moon material content etc. will be removed. Informing the players when a mirror is taken from TQ doesn't seem to provide any benefits.

Fixing a memory leak - bug reporting helped!
A memory leak was discovered and closed in the following days. CCP Habakuk has some more information on this leak. Bug reporting helped in swiftly identifying and closing the leak - thank you!

Third party development
Reaching historical prices from crest root
Is it possible to reach the CREST historical market data by starting at the CREST endpoint and then construct the according URL? At the moment this is not possible, but CCP FoxFour has this issue high on his list of things to do.

Third-party documentation discussion
What would you like to see at the third party developer documentation? Do you have ideas on how to improve the process or if the player community could assist? The following discussion is quite interesting and you are most welcome to join!

Various
BAFTA nomination for EVE
EVE Online has been nominated for a BAFTA in the category Persistent Game 2015. If EVE Online would win this award, then it belongs to you, the players who fill this universe with life, passion and action. Thank you!

4k monitor for multi-character playing
Lady tristin would like to buy a 4k monitor and play EVE Online on it with several clients. Which graphic cards would be sufficient for that and has anyone experience with playing EVE Online on a 4k monitor? DoToo Foo has gathered some experience and wrote an interesting article on his blog.

Size chart of prominent planets in New Eden by Funzinnu BT
The player Funzinnu BT created an interesting chart showing the size of various planets in New Eden in comparison with planets in our own solar system. While this is not a new image, it is very interesting nonetheless! The discussion on Reddit is also interesting to follow.

Lazerhawks Birthday "Party" in Thera
The well-known corporation Lazerhawks invites everyone to "party" in Thera on Friday the 13th from 23:00 EVE time. Expect mayhem and destruction, explosions and of course a lasershow! To find an entrance to Thera, check the player made tool EVE Scout.

I for one was disappointed to find that CCP removed the learning skills from the game, i think removing attribute points and, implants from the game is a horrible idea. These feature are one of the most original mechanics in any game and, bring a unique aspect to the game that i enjoy playing. Back when the learning skills where available, players who decided to invest heavily in this skill tree were rewarded with faster skill queues. Please do not remove attribute points from the game CCP. Enough damage has already been done.

Just my opinion,

Thank for the post.

This is absolutely not true!

I would like to point to CCP FoxFour's linked post as explanation and for further information. Settings are stored at the client installation location. You can use multiple installation directories to store different client settings. You also can use symbolic links for that as quoted in the original post.

Yep, I confirm that, apparently, this is only the way you worded it that is really misleading.

And again:
Quote:
[...] Settings are stored at the client installation location. [...]
No...
They are using the client installation location, which you can fake with symlinks, as CCP FoxFour said.
They aren't stored at the client installation location.
