I really want to join a 0.0 corp but i play while my son is asleep in his cot in or bedroom.
Do i need to be able to talk in ts,mumble etc or can i just listen?
If not then i can at least put my efforts to good use somewhere else in high sec.

you will need to listen on a voice com in order to take part in most null ops.

i suppose you would only need to talk if you wanted to be a fleet commander.

Listen mostly, unless your FC or scout.

Not being able to talk might be a blessing, cause it means the FC can't yell at you to shut the f*ck up.

Im mainly a hulk pilot atm. But i can fly up to BS (probably couldnt fit it with anything useful) so hopefully i could do something as well as mining rocks all day.

Voice comms are essential for any sort of PvP in any region of space. If your fleet is just using text, you are by default set behind a lot against anyone else who is using voice.

That said, most of the fleet doesn't need to talk, and in fact, shouldn't. The text Fleet channel is usually kept for idle chatter, while only the FC and scout talk in voice. At least, this is the case with sizable fleets that need discipline. Small roaming gangs might have looser discipline.

Anyway, you should be fine typing only. I was in a similar situation for a while and was still able to PvP just fine.

For my alliance, listening is mandatory. Talking is optional. Others we've dealt with apparently don't like people with muted microphones, so be prepared to just put yourself on push-to-talk or something like that.

As all above said. Listening is the most important.

as hulk pilot you don't need comms anyway. Unless you like to speak too much (like many people like).....

Live in 0.0 for miners and other "bears" (no offence, here i mean "non-pvp player") don't need anything except corp chat, intel chat and local chat. I would say you can ignore anything except local chat if you mine in grav site (not in belt). Big smile Bad news: most of a people do the same so you almost never know if occasional roaming gang is near or not.... Shocked

Voice Comms are a must.. but chances are you'll be in a standings fleet anyway (for defensive 'ohfuxiwasntwatchingintel' moments). Other then that you will have the soul-crushing resposibility of listening to other bears go all 'lifestorytime' while bearing it up in Null.

Worse things could happen though- definitely check out null-sec its fun out here.

EVE-Voice in Jita local.... yeah, I'd listen to that. When ever I needed to curse someone out, I'd just pipe it in and let the Jita denizens scream incoherently (that and tons of feedback).

As said, voice comms are very important. However, don't feel like you're barred from joining a nullsec corp without them.. I now of at least 2 people in my own corp who are deaf.

Having been on Goons voice comms, there were times (all of the time, really) I wished for the sweet silence of deafness, so I'd count them as the lucky few.

My alliance usually has an average of 8 or so on comms, and its just one talking over another, but it makes a tighter group, IMHO. If everyone is a nameless drone, it doesn't really feel like a corp/alliance. It's better to get to know people so I can mock their deficiencies and pit people against each other for my own amusement... or to deflect questions regarding responsibilities.

Can't wait to dual box my Dust toon and EVE toon on the same machine!
