Missions with Acceleration gates

Im finally dipping my toe into some Level 3 security missions, only to have it bitten off.

I have no issue with missions where in I can warp in at a distance and kite or at leaste asses the situation for a moment.

But the missions where you go through an acceleration gate and get dropped directly on top of a whole mess of badness, those are eating my lunch.

IS there a strategy or trick to this, such as saving the location of a structure, warping out, then warping back at 50 or whatever distance ya want?

Any ideas?

Simply tanking all the damage, basically tanking the entire "room" at one time is not possible for me at this time.

Be faster.

Hint: use a Microwarpdrive Afterburner, or MircoJumpdrive

Be tankier.

Hint: overtanking is always an option.

Use a different ship.

Hint: sometimes, now matter how you fit a particular ship, it will not perform well for the task at hand.

Adding to the above, if you list your ship fit we may be able to help you with that.

Well with bookmarks, you can save the bookmark, but if you warp out and warp back to that bookmark you will be placed at the initial gate and you will have to go through them again. It shouldn't be too much trouble to warp out if your getting hit too hard, repair, and then come back.

But you also want enough tank on your ship to be able to withstand a bit of damage as well to last longer without needing to warp out (tho your defense will get better with time and skills).

As with what Gregor said, copy your fit and we can maybe help you with getting fit better up for the lv3 missions.

As far as the afterburner or microwarpdrive, unless you have good defense skills first, I would hold off on that. That's what I did. For the longest time I didn't have a AB/MWD on my drake for lv4's because I needed the extra shield buffer.

One thing that will help you tank an entire room is tailoring your tank to the hostiles in the specific mission.

Example: Against Serpentis, almost all damage you suffer will be Kinetic or Thermal. So fit Kin and Therm specific hardeners.

Otherwise, a prop mod (MWD or AB) will help you pull range, as will the (hard to fit) Medium Micro Jump Drive. You can't warp around within 10000km of where an acceleration gate lands you.

What mission was that? I can't remember any lvl 3 mission where that was an issue.
Just because there are ships all around you doesn't mean they will all attack you - most only get aggro once some conditions are met.

In any case, there is no other way to warp into the mission pocket.
But you can look up the mission on eve-survival.org to know what's behind the gate and prepare accordingly.

Just to add on the last reply:

A great site for mission running and lets you know what type of defense you should have on a certain mission too.

I could give some advice but as others I'd really need to know what ship you are flying and how you are fitting it. Mission / faction specific hardeners are a huge help to the point of being nearly mandatory. Also like others have posted read mission reports not just for fitting advice but tactical advice as well.

If you are flying a battlecruiser just fit a MJD and jump straight up or straight down 100km as soon as you get into the room.

Just on the medium microjumpdrive - it is absolute murder to fit to battlecruisers for lower skilled players.

tanking the entire room? there are very few, if any, lvl 3 missions where you have to tank the entire room. maybe you messed up your triggers and have all spawns come in or all groups attack you? if it is a hard mission (know from experience or amount of ISK and LP reward), read something like eve-survival to know your triggers.
also, what ship are you flying?

We could give dozens of idea, as the others have said which mission you are having trouble with, which ship you are flying and how it is fit is critical for us to really help you.

As a 5 year vet I can tell you that these mission will get so laughably easy in the future that you will start to experiment with all kinds of weird ships and fits just to add some spice so hang in there, give us a little more information and we will help you achieve that goal.

I sympathise with the OP on this issue. The answer is to use a 'Combat Battlecruiser' with a Medium MicroWarp Drive. Certainly in the case of some COSMOS sites before we were given that module I lost quite a few ships due to web/scram and whole room agro. Alternatively make a note of the missions where you have lost ships in that scenario and refuse them when you are offered them again.

It's been a long time since I last flew missions, but I don't remember any L3s that web/scram you as soon as you land. In general, fit an MWD and just burn directly away from the closest group of rats (set your default keep-at-range to 100km) until you're at your preferred distance.
