Hello, New Eden,
So with new recent appearances on SISI of Drifter class battleships and how ridiculous these things seem to be. I'm just gonna spew out my random thoughts of what exactly these things are capable of.
The 2nd shield:
These ships have something never before seen in eve. They have what appears to be a second shield layer. Now I am going to refer to this 2nd layer as either and Over shield or a Hard shield. My predictions of what this technology is essentially a strong warp field created around the ship that has the ability to absorb damage. Because there Hard shield is a warp field your ship is actually locking onto its warp field, giving room for theory that your ship's sensors can't distinguish between the warp field and the ship itself. This would explain why when its shields drop you lose lock on the ship.
Propulsion:
These ships for being 'Battleships' are surprisingly small and surprisingly fast. They also lack any sort of engines or external propulsion that we know of. But they seem to have antenna attached to the outside that seem to bend space around them. Seeing that they bend space I am predicting that there propulsion is literally a warp drive. Bending space around the ship to move it, would allow for an inertia of near 0, and allow for fast speeds. Unfortunately this doesn't explain its size as a micro warp drive as we know it has an extreme affect on signature. However, if these drifters are related to Jove they may have an answer or solution to solve this issue.
Weapons:
First of all, ho-ly cr-ap! These weapons seem to be lazers, or a very advanced version. These weapons seem to do omni damage witch means they are far more advanced then the amarrian's, I am no physics professor so I cant be curtain but these lasers when they impact seem to bend space around them as well. Another thing is that there guns are detached from the ship possibly making these weapons capacitor less use. If its possible to do such a thing, it also seems they are able to collapse space around our ships. Maybe there supposed doomsday weapons might be a weapon that can collapse space onto a ship. I don't know the energy consumption required for this but it seems like it would be a massive amount.
