If it moves, shoot it...

If it doesn't move, its easier to shoot, so shoot it...

When in doubt keep shooting till the FC calls for the diplos...

There is no such thing as a fair fight...

If your fighting fair you have automatically put yourself at a disadvantage.

Does he HAVE to call the diplomats? It could just be a standings glitch. We all know how unreliable the overview is. RollPirate

Another reason that hasn't been raised yet is to increase demand (and hence prices) for implants, and indirectly to increase prices for loyalty points from missions.
Indeed, "sponsoring" people to murder other people is a legitimate business practice in Eve and makes perfect sense if you sell implants.

Higher prices on these things may or may not be good for you as a player, but there are definitely people that know how to profit from them. One reasonably well known implant trader has been known to sponsor a few people to play 'pod roulette' by giving them hundreds of cheapfit Thrashers that can one-volley a pod (or two-volley a shuttle and pod).
D400 springs to mind, no doubt his "sponsor" considered it to be an aggressive marketing campaign and thus a valid expenditure.

Arrth (or whatever his name is, Goonswarm member) used to regularly fund st0ner smurf's campaign of terror to the tune of hundreds of Thrashers a month. Small change for Arrth, but it got him results at a time he was sitting on nearly a trillion worth of implants.

Corpses make good company for a middle-aged Gallente male.

He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.

He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.

Well, using the "Pod Express" is not that uncommon, a certain area in Jita is often littered with Corpses from selfdestructed Pods. Also, this is often the fastest way to reship. Of course you probably want to use an "empty-headed" clone for that.....

This is I'm sure a very noob question, but as someone who isn't looking at doing any PvP in the near future I have to ask, whats the point or appeal of podkilling someone after their ship has 'sploded? Do you get extra cash? Some sort of standing cred? Personal gratification? I just want to understand whats going on.

All valid reasons, though with most players it lies solely with the fact that they are obsessed with killboards, as they believe it is the end-all-be-all of EVE PvP. The bigger numbers equate to being a better pilot.. at least that is what many would like to think. Irrelevant to the op question, I also believe it is why a very small percentage actually fly solo, fly honor fits, join channels dedicated to actually flying well and winning without bubbles and hot drops, and take years to represent the same killboard stats that are achieved by newer players within a few months of casual play. Tldr: they enjoy the kb boost.

The real question is: why not kill the pod?

It's worth noting that you can pretty reliably sell any random corpse in a trade hub for about a million isk.

I figure if they don't warp off in the 2 seconds it takes for me to lock them, they probably need my help to get home anyway

One time I took a pod hostage in a novice complex in faction warfare. kept him scrammed and webbed for 20 minutes before letting him go :) the second time I met him though, no mercy. his corpse now visits all my tea parties in the captains quarters

If I might ask... how big are your tea parties these days? Mine's close to 800. Twisted

I did this, I found a guy while I was drunk and probed him down (which took a little while as I probed my main down twice before finding him) and grabbed him, poped his ship and grabbed the pod, kept him there because it was really important that he learned to use the dscan , I think I had hid do about 15 minutes or so, forcefeeding him advice and rescources regardless of if he wanted them....I'm fairly certain he doesn't want that to happen again so he's either never going to leave highsec again or learnd to dscan.

Indeed the question of shooting the pod should be 'why not' ?

Especially in WH's if you haven't BM'ed the exits you're going to end up podding your self anyway unless your account and general behaviour is noob enough to tingle my 'cuddly puppy aww' -senses and I might taxi you to nearest high sec or like with some obnoxious null bear that we sent to some high sec island literally on the other side of the galaxy from Jita through a hole that collapsed immediately after him.

Such w-holes are unfortunately rare otherwise I would troll people more often with those when they blindly wonder to w-space without probes, though usually they just end up exploding along with their eggs and I have a new corpse for my collection.

Question for you: how many corpses can fit in a 27B ISK Archon?

P

Just joking, I wish I had the time / ISK / balls / SP / skill to take part in those epic J-space cap fights.

Maybe one day...

But yes, you should move to w-space, Mr Foyle, it's the best space.

The Banana killed 16b in caps a few weeks ago, then a week or so after that Ms Erica and her sister killed something like 31b of caps. Honestly though I find those kinds of fights extremely boring compared to a 4v4 or 6v6 gang bang, for example. But you just can't pass up those epic moments when Foedus says "login login".

As for topic, well sure, capsules are another "kill", just like any ship and can be fitted with implants as expensive as some ship fits. You kill it because you can and because killing stuff is what it's all about.

If you get the pod you get the implants. Implants provide significant benefits that I don't want other people to have and are often very expensive.

Subsequently pods must die.
