You say you're old but this reeks of errr... I'll be nice... "youthful" opinion. Either that, or you're very good at imitating the psyche of a "I'm awsum coz it's me" guy.

I have over 100mil sp doing the solo pvp thing.

Reasons for not joining up with others:

Drama, I can do without it.
Was a corp, then an alliance diplo, and as soon as my my screen started loading on login I was getting convo'd.
Got put into position of corp/alliance leader of a small alliance when the previous head left eve. Learned most people want you to do everything for them and were unwilling to step up and do it themselves.
Joined up with successfull large 0.0 alliance, learned how to gate camp, shoot at pos, die in lag, saw blues everywhere, and lost my pvp edge due to being in large gangs.
The elite pilots, or maybe I should refraise to, the people who like stroking their nether regions thinking they are awesome and talking down to eveyrone around them annoyed me.
Did I mention drama and how it annoyed me?

Doing my own thing, without having to rely on others or have others rely on me, whenever and whatever the hell I want, with zero drama and/or nether region stroking, is how I and other solo pilots like to play.

When it comes to PvP, I am like a chiwawa hanging from a grizzley bears pair of wrinklies for dear life.

Dear OP, if you're struggling to understand why there are so many experienced players choosing to play solo, perhaps you should try it. Sounds like you were too eager to jump into corp life (aka being someone else's *****) and missed out on the satisfaction and challenge of running your own show - in your own time.

There are plenty of good reasons why experienced players choose the solo path. Here are a couple of options you missed:

  • You have a full family, social and work life and you have no desire to spend more than 5 or 6 hours a week on a computer game. You'd prefer to be watching your kids play sport, down at the pub with mates or shagging the missus. You therefore cannot reliably commit time and effort to a player corp and all the time-consuming bullshit that goes with it.

  • You couldn't stand taking orders from some geek who has never led, managed or achieved anything in real life.

Now I have a couple of questions for you. Your killboard indicates you stick to highsec and blow up mainly pods and industrials.

  • Ok, I admit to doing it myself, but why aren't you bored of that yet?

  • Is this the career you would recommend for the solo, 'anti-social' types?

Never make eye contact with someone while eating a banana.

Go join a random PvP corp. If you're lucky, you'll end up with a corp of decent people who like to PvP.

Many reasons

1. Erratic schedule makes anything group-related difficult.

2. I support and occasionally code software for several hundred companies. By 17:00, I am "peopled out".

3. A prior experience as a guild master which amounted to playing den mother/scout master/guidance councilor to dozens of boys being ravaged by puberty

4. Chat channels filled with "MOAR TEARS!", "HTFU!", etc annoy me. I thought this might be a consequence of age but I realized that BBS-era "warez kiddie speak" annoyed me too.

5. Gate camping and roaming to protect what amounts to a few database tables on an Icelandic server doesn't strike me as a good time. Sneaking into them alone, on the other hand, has its' moments.

You said BBS and warez...

IMO one of the problems is the lack of a pick up group capability in eve. There isn't a good way to get to know folks in a variety of corps and figure out which ones have personalities you mesh with.

In an attempt to add some humor, sarcasm and get people fired up over a post. It has been perceived in many unforeseen ways. Most of the things I iterated are self describing, yet people insist I am projecting, telling them how they should play, take everything literally, attack my RL character etc. Whatever the case, I am not as lonely now in my solo choices.

And damn if this thread didn't get some legs on it. Thanks to most of you for sharing your thoughts.
