Navigating a route with Jump button on Selected Item window

As long as I have been playing Eve, this has been an intermittent issue: While in station or in space, you set destination several jumps away to create a route. You initiate jump through the first gate and when you emerge on the other end, the next gate appears in the Selected Item window and is also selected in the Overview. You can click the Jump icon in the Selected Item window to continue on your route through the next gate, and so on. Nice feature, right? Well yeah if it would work consistently.

At random and under many different conditions, the next gate on route is not selected. I have not been able to recreate any specific conditions which result in the feature working or not working 100% of the time.

This issue has been discussed here before but no meaningful responses were posted: 357035

I recall seeing this mentioned in a release-specific issues thread about 3 releases back and remember reading the issue was resolved.
