A lot of people down here in providence recommend using this overlay program to detect people in local a lot easier but before I use it I wondered if it was legal.

Wait.. I thought Provi was all NRDS... why would one need a third party program to determine such things?

Ok so can I minimize local and just use the overlay to show nets/reds when they come in system? That would be nice, id use that.

Not in Providence or associated with anyone involved, but typically NRDS involves a complicated list of reds, so that enemies can be separated from neutrals and shot, and I guess the in-game standings system just couldn't keep up with the number of reds that they have or with how often new reds are added to the list.

it puts it's query on a support ticket or else it gets the troll again.

What's the program called?

Hmm.

Depends on how it works. If it's a
'manually copy the local list to your clipboard', then it's /probably/ fine.

If it's 'monitor eve's memory to find out who's in local' then no, it's most definitely a bannable offence.

However, the best option is to put in a support ticket. If you get the ok there, you may still be banned, but you have a better chance to be unbanned.

CCP will not list programs it's ok to use (as then they'd have to keep an eye on them, to make sure they don't change to become 'bad'.

According to the source code on Bitbucket, it looks like it listens for clipboard data (much like EFT does for fits) for a specific format (aka, the pilot list) and parses it. It doesn't seem to actually look into Eve's memory from what I can tell.

Relevant code: https://bitbucket.org/louisburton/kosoverlay/src/c2da84f32d2456e392fa27cee1a85a887ba9863f/src/main/java/com/quickcamel/game/eve/kosoverlay/initiator/KeyListener.java?at=master

Probably best to support ticket.

Like killing something with fire and/or nuking it from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

Exactly as the man said.

As such, thread locked as you will not get a definitive answer here on the forum.
