Naming Bombs

Hello Everyone!

I just had an idea that I would like to propose / get input on. Some people used to write messages on bombs during WWII so I thought. Why not allow that in EVE?

We can name mobile depots, POS, stations and the like so why not allow us to name ordinance as well?

Wouldn't it be cool to pre-label a bomb, for example? Purely for fun of course! That way when you launch said bomb, instead of having it show up as "Concussion Bomb" or "Void Bomb" on your enemy's overview instead it shows up as "THE HAMMER" or "With Love" etc... Twisted

What do you guys think?

NOTE: I originally posted this in the "Warfare and Tactics" page but this is likely a more appropriate forum for it :)

no as i like to know via my overview that it is a bomb so i can gtfo

no as mass launching a bunch of named bombs would no doubt play hell with my computer if not the server just loading the Jita 4-4 grid pauses for a bit as it loads all of the deployables even with brakes off and that could make it so i activate my mjd to late

I suppose there is that risk. My thought is that the object could still show up as "Bomb" just with a name attached to it.

You do make a legitimate point though and it is a valid concern.

It sounds fun but if all goes well know one will ever know it was named but me, and all the things you mentioned we name can only be named once they're in space.

Originally I was thinking of having a bomb named before being loaded into the launcher. Then, when it was deployed it would be displayed as " x " name on the overview. Sort of a deliverable message.
BUT...
Due to the aforementioned reasons though (causes lag / overview issues) maybe it would be better if the message/bomb name displayed in the log of the player it impacted. That way the name of the bomb on the overview would be the same - i.e. a concussion bomb would still show up as "Concussion Bomb" on the overview while it was in flight and you could still send a mini bomb message to the targeted player.

Ship names only appear on Dscan, why would bomb names appear on the overview?

I'd name my bomb "Lovely Greetings" and I'd ask if there could be some rainbow color effect instead of a boring normal explosion.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

Why stop there.

Why not make a new kind of bomb, but instead of being able to rename it, IT RENAMES SHIPS IT HITS and randomly broadcasts chaotic information in their fleet broadcasts

Basically it would turn a neatly organized fleet into a bunch of gibberish, plus half the ships would suddenly broadcast for cap, armor, etc. involuntarily.

The name would show up in the name slot on the overview. It's type would still display as concussion bomb.

I highly doubt it'll significantly impact the performance of your computer. If you can play EVE during a mass launch of bombs, you already shouldn't notice the difference.

On behalf of the second biggest troll alliance in EVE, I have to say YES, WE WOULD USE THESE.

That wouldn't really achieve anything though? At most you'd annoy the logi, but you'd actually be LESS annoying than half the fleet broadcasting for reps after a regular bombing run.

Instead of that i'd like to see a sign on a wreck - killed by with such a weapon. Not the corp ticker.

Honestly half a dozen bombs floating towards me all called Barry would be fairly terrifying.

+1 just because.

Why again are you not in TEST?

While I like the core concept here, the issue I see is that the extra bit of information may prove just distracting enough to interfere with the small window of opportunity to defend oneself from bombing runs. That said, if this became a thing my Manticore would suddenly see quite a bit more use.

Name it "Sorry About Your Ship."

That's because it was a good idea that came out backwards.

Broadcast SUPPRESSION is where it's at.
